I THINK it is important that over dinner tonight the children especially (but everyone too) talk about and remember what great deeds saints did through their faith and devotion to others that allowed them to rise above the common trappings of materialism and achieve an enlightened level.
It can be hoped then that those of us who struggle with our own demons can likewise use the example of those before us to rise above and gain a clearer understanding of God's work and teachings through the example of the saints.

STR is the abreviation of our forum name. Scripture Tradtion and Reason. Others can explain the significance of the term.

You don't follow the CW usage of 'And also with you?' O_o...

And also with you.
That is actually a mistranslation of "Et cum spiritu tuo," which means "and with your Spirit," or "and with thy spirit." ;)

It's international standard anglican usage though. :)

All the people here who baulk at anything Roman ought to baulk at that. It came to us right out of Vatican 2.
The 1928 Prayerbook doesn't have it.

Hey, did anyone say that nothing good came from Rome? :)

Ouch. Umm... I think the Roman Catholics would disagree that the Novus Ordo is truly in the Spirit of Vatican II. Hey, I think the ASB liturgy is far far superior to the CCEL translation of the NO anyhow, even if it was using some of the same lanaguage.

Albiet, this is off topic , but hey. The current Roman rite is not what VII had in mind. But we've got Benedicti decimi sexti, so we should have things cleared up soon. Plus, there's the universal indult coming out soon.

And with thy spirit.

D'you know, I've been an Anglican off and on for 18 years now, and I've never been to a service that used that? O_o

Good to see you around though, Pamela. :)

All Saints is an ancient Christian tradition where we remember and ask for the prayers of those Christians who have gone before. It is customarily celebrated on the first of November.
