It was introduced as a 10-minute rule, so did not have the weight to progress through parliament. The purpose of this type of bill is to gain publicity for the cause - perhaps leading to it being added to the government's manifesto in futre parliaments and Queen's speeches.

When i saw the news rolling along the ticker it said 'MPs have voted to reduce the time limit on abortions' (or something to that effect). I interpreted that to mean they have voted and supported the bill.

A number of prolifers voted against the bill but why? Simple because whilst the bill would reduce the limit it would make it easier to get an abortion earlier and so more destruction would have ensued.

An earlier abortion limit is thought to cause more abortions, simply because women have less time to come to terms with her situation and consider the alternatives.
