Hi! I am RC and have attended the local Episcopal church with my husband on numerous occasions. Since this is the only Episcopal/Anglican church I have ever been in, I have a question I thought you might be able to answer. Do some Episcopal/Anglican churches ever have prayer candles? You know the votives on a stand where you can say a prayer and light a candle? Thanks for your help! :) Karin

I've never seen one, but I go to a fairly evenglical congregation...there's nothing saying the the real high Church Anglo-Cath never use them...it would have to depend on the parish...

Yes, our does in the chapel. We (St. Marks, Richmond, Va.) are rather on the high end of "broad church".

St. Luke's... haven't been there in a long time though, not a fan of the current rector.

My parish does, but we are high church. We also have other things that I don't see in some other Episcopal churches, like the Stations of the Cross and a holy water fount. We had a Vatican I style alter until 1996 when they finally the priest turned around. Most parishes close to my home don't have these things because there low church or evangelicals.

have fun ;)
and i realized i made a mistake about them having a votive stand. my mother-in-law's parish does (also in San Antonio, but Roman Catholic). sorry about the mess up. that's what happens when you go to mass all over the place.

The Anglo-catholic church where I did a placement has a votive stand, and my parents Episcopalian church in California has one (it's a cathedral, though).

Here at my own CofE broad church, we are talking of getting one. I quite like the idea.
We lit votives for All Saints last Sunday.

I don't think I've ever been in an Anglican Cathedral that didn't have votive candles. Our central parish church has them. We don't, but that's only because I keep forgetting to get off my butt and sort out somewhere to put them.

Hey, I'm Catholic and there are always prayer candels in the church ( ones you light in rememberence of those who died, or after church we can go light a candel and say a prayer )

I didn't realise we (mostly) only had them in cathedrals. Still, there is something to be said for making a trip to the cathedral for the single purpose of lighting a votive candle.

Went to our cathedral this morning (not something that happens often as it's 400km away). My other half wanted to light a votive candle, but they were all already lit.
