The recent post by Twincrier brings into focus the fact that there are at least 2 very different definitions of Fundamentalist. As currently defined, it matters not if you are Reformed, Freewill, Lutheran, or any of a host of other differentials. As long as you hold to the Fundamentals (basically, a high view of Scriptural authenticity, authority and authorship), one is welcome.

However there is another definition, one more "denominational" in character. Those bretheren (and I do count them brothers), have specific distinctives such as Arminianism, abstention from alcohol and so on. They also have their own institutions.

PERHAPS it may be best to create a subforum for those who share those distinctives.

I would like especially the opinions of those here who view themselves as Fundamentalists not only because of their view of Scripture, but for other reasons as well.

I would be happily be labeled a fundamentalist with a small "f" and ced the title of "Fundamentalist" to others.

I post this in the hope of allowing a safer space for others.

Maybe you could call the subforum, "Stereotypical Fundamentalists?"

I don't know. I would be of those with a small "f". Maybe the big F's are well among us ;)

While it is nice for us fundies to have a joint of our own I am opposed to more division. Abstaining from alcohol is a choice and not mandated in scripture. It is not a fundie doctrine at all. While I commend those who abstain I feel that drawing divisions amongst ourselves based on things that are matters of conscience would just be further dividing ourselves. We can all use a little sharpening and as we know iron sharpens iron. Why divide rather than hone?

I agree with Flesh99. While I usually favor the additions of subforums, I don't think there is enough disagreement among us to warrant it.

Ok then, but realize what the definition of fundy is on this forum. By that definition, a wine drinking Calvinist has every right to the title.

Cultivo una rosa blanca
en junio como enero
para el amigo sincero
que me da su mano franca.
Y para el cruel que me arranca
el corazón con que vivo,
cardo ni ortiga cultivo;
cultivo la rosa blanca.
by Jose Mari, credited as the founder of Cuban independence.

Translation (without rhyming):
I cultivate the white rose,
in June as in January,
for my sincere friend,
who gives me his true hand.

And for the cruel man who tears out my living heart;
neither thisthles nor stinging nettles I cultivate.
I cultivate the white rose.
