What is an Apologist or is it Apologetist? I don't know how to spell it, but hopefully you know what I mean. :P

apologist: A person who argues in defense or justification of something, such as a doctrine, policy, or institution.

Apologetics books are great to read, you'll learn so much from them.
Some authors I would recomend are Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel. They are both great for new Christians. I learned so much from them :)

One of the first was Justin Martyr, almost 1900 years ago: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~dekker/essays/history.html#SEC10

CS Lewis is also considered an apologist, I believe. At any rate, his book "Mere Christianity" is very helpful. He was a former atheist too...

I've heard good things about Norm Geisler and Ravi Zacharias as well.

Yes C.S. Lewis was an athiest, which unlike today, was a fairly uncommon thing. Not to mention, Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel were athiests as well.
