View Full Version : Is it a gift of God or Satan

:help: I am a newbie to this forum. I would like to say that I have enjoyed and respected what many of you have posted and commented on. Thus is the reason I have made this post.

All of my life I have been able to foretell of things to come. The "visions" come in sleep and waking hours. I have "visioned" events of deaths-family and friends-in full an complete detail, births-including my own-which entail the sex, weight, looks, the DOB etc. of the child; to daily and world events. Every vision is in detail.

My problem is, every minister/pastor has told me that this is a gift of Satan. Needless to say, this has ripped at my heart. I have not used this "gift" in any way for evil. Things just come to me.

I always pray that if and when I receive these visions, that God help me to deliver them the way He has intended.

I have always been a child of God. I have wondered some, as most of us have, but my heart and soul have always been His.

I do not falsely prophesy to anyone. I only share my dreams and visions with those involved or in the case of other events, those closet to me. We then discuss my dreams/visions as they unfold.

My faith and beliefs are strong. I am just confused, not to mention hurt, as to why I am told it is a gift from Satan.

Could someone please help me. I have prayed on this everyday. I feel alone in this matter.

Your sister in Christ,

Dawn

Well, i think every minister/pastor is wrong!
I also know someone who hads dreams and visions of the future and of the past, and there is no way that it is from the Devil since the devil cannot manifest himself inside a Christian who has been baptised in the Holy Spirit, and has Jesus active in their lives like you seem to.

Are all of the visions accurate? Do you have a peace about them, or do they make you feel awkward and uncomfortable, like there is something dark behind them?

Are you more like this:

Numbers 12

5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward,
6 he said, "Listen to my words:
"When a prophet of the LORD is among you,
I reveal myself to him in visions,
I speak to him in dreams.

Joel 2

27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
that I am the LORD your God,
and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed.
The Day of the LORD
28 "And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
(This same scripture is repeated in Acts 2:16-18)

or this?

Zechariah 10:2

The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd.

I'd ask you to pray about it as much as possible, and see what he has to say!

God Bless

Chris,

First let me thank you.

My visions always come true. When I first come to I am usually startled by them. Some can be very, shall I say, graphic. Especially the ones pertaining to world events. But strangely, I am never scared, troubled or uncomfortable. Strangely enough I feel at peace, no matter what I have just seen.

The only thing that troubles me is, what am I to do with many of them? People will think I'm nuts! Even though it will come to truth.

I could give many examples, but I feel that is unneccessary.

Thank you again!

Love in Christ,

Dawn

Hmm, yeh that is a slightly more complicated issue...
My friend doesn't do anything with them, unless he feels God wants him to. I would say, each time you get a vision/dream, just ask God to show you what to do with it, and what it's purpose was... and i'm sure he will!

Another thing i would say; If you are still unsure about the gifts, *give them to God*!
Say "Lord, i humbly come before you, to give you my visions, and my dreams, to use for your glory. They do not belong to me, they are yours! Please use them to do your will through me! Amen".

Have a good read of the following chaper:

1 Corinthians 12

Spiritual Gifts

1Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
12The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
13For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
19If they were all one part, where would the body be?
20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!"
22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
27Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.
29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
And now I will show you the most excellent way

Notice how the gift of Prophecy is reffered to as a "greater gift"!? Why? Because it is used to build up and edify the Church Body! It's a very imporant role in the church, and i would suggest you talk to your ministers/pastors about this, and quote some of these verses.

This I have also done. I was told, "Satan is in your head. Satan has given you such scriptures to fight his cause".

 :sigh:

I will not and have not given up faith in finding good ministry.

I thank you kindly for your kind thoughts.

Yeh, i'd look for another Church.
Where abouts do you live? Maybe you could post a Thread on Forums asking if there are any better churches in your area.. you never know.

Dawn,

Well, that gift is certaintly not from Satan.  He is not capable of creating or giving gifts.  He can only imitate what God has created and given.

This sounds very much like it could be part of the prophesy gifts.  Words of knowledge, etc.

What you do with this gift is pray over what you see.  Just because you see it does not mean that praying will not change it.  Such as in something that is bad.

This could be God's way of stirring you to intercession regarding what you have seen.

my husband also has visions. i think you have the gift of what the oldHighland scots called second sight. this is very important--if the visions just come to you they are from God but if you are messing with a cyrstal ball or oujia board and you have one they are from Satan

Settle it in your heart once and for all. Ask God to take away the gift if it's not from him but from Satan. Ask God to use you even more if he's not taken it away ie its from him.

then, judge the visions and dreams -- find someone who believes in the gifts of the Spirit and who is at spiritual maturity level that is grounded well on the Word of God (ie not flaky) and judge and discuss with him. Dont forget to ask God for understnding and direction to. Rem, the gifts of God are for edifying and building up the church in love.

I say judge and weigh becos Satan is bound to throw in one or two of his own dreams/visions to cause confusion. So always check that the 'message' / 'direction' does not contradict the Word, and judge it with other mature Christians.

I believe your gift is from God so use it to HIS glory, build up the church!

God bless!

My friend, you have a wonderful gift :D Satan wouldn't give you a gift you could use to glorify God :) I personally wish I had that gift at some times... very nifty and proves the existence of a God in my mind. How could "tell the future" otherwise?

Maybe these verses can be of help to you:

James_1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Gal_5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal_5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

I think that you already knew this gift was from God, but you were just looking in here for confirmation. Clearly, you were pointing out all the good qualities and have a desire to have it be from God. You know, but Satan doesn't want you to use your gift for the glory of God at any time. So he has been plauging you with doubts, right? Remember as well that he is the father of all lies. But our Father isn't!!! :D :D WOOO-HOOO!!!

Next time you have a vision/dream, write it down for an atheist and say "God gave me a dream saying ___ will happen... if this comes to pass, you should really reconsider whether there is a God or not"

Hope this post helped. :) Have a great day!

P.S. Maybe you could post your next vision/dream here for us to read? I am intrigued by these kinds of gifts myself. Just a thought

4HimILive - Even if you don't know what to do with the dreams, i'd encourage you to write them all down in a journal, and keep them for future refference..
