I've had this sort of explained to me once, but I didn't entirely understand. I've seen several EOs put Forgive Me. at the the end of all their posts. Why is that, necessarily? I may end up adopting it. *shrug* :P
Many thanks! :)

We are called to live a life of repentence. This means we are constantly asking God for forgiveness for the sins we commit against him. Since we are commanded to love one another, we are all called to ask our fellow man for forgiveness when we commit sins against our fellow man, whether we commiting them knowingly or totally by accident and aren't even aware of it.

I use it often, though not always. As the chief of sinners, I am sure that my various posts offend someone, so therefore, I ask for forgiveness.
Forgive me.

Well, it would show a better attitude than throwing a :P into every post...might add an air of sincerity to the questions.

...not only are we to seek forgiveness, but to offer it as well.

If we are asking for forgiveness, why not say "Forgive me?" or "Please forgive me." instead of what seems a command - "Forgive me." ?

Don't you ever say "pardon me?" Is that a command? "Excuse me" is used contantly and it is not a command. "Forgive me" is not a command, but a request that is a given.

Ah the shortcoming of English. In other languages you would have a very clear imperative if you were giving a command. In English the lines are so blurry. Now if you said "Forgive me or else", that would be a command ;)

Excellent point. English has no clean imperative....except maybe the use of CAPS in posts..... FORGIVE ME! ;)
