Does anyone know of any grants available through the UMC or ecumenical organizations for the development/support of music ministry or worship arts in local churches?
I was involved in a church that can't afford equiptment or to pay musicians right now, but we desperately want to have a vibrant music ministry.
Any resources would help.
thanks

That's a good question! I found some information about grants here (http://archives.umc.org/interior.asp?ptid=1&mid=1022).
I'm not sure about paying for musicians - our church has two services, traditional and contemporary - and we have a full praise band at the contemporary service. I know that the band members are not paid, it's on a voluntary basis only (the same with the choir at the traditional service), and the band members provide their own equipment. As far as the sound equipment (sound board, speakers, microphones, etc) we budgeted for that in the church's budget when we were doing our building upgrade fundraising. I only bring that up to show that even if you are unsuccessful in your search for a grant (and I'm not saying you will be :) ), that doesn't mean you can't have a vibrant music ministry!
May God bless your search!

I'm not familiar with the grant process, but we are nearing year end. Can other committees *donate* some of their unused funds to help launch this project?
