I am an independant, although I definitely lean more the "right". However, I am tired of the stuff which happens in congress, on both sides of the aisle, and so I got to musing.

Maybe there is something to this Mennonite thing of not getting involved.....maybe we should just keep reaping and praying with a sense of urgency about the upcoming harvest.

Maybe this sort of thing will serve to rip America in two. Guys like me, who lean right, but can't trust the Republicans not to molest teenagers will vote even farther to the right, like the Constitution Party. Others who lean left, may see the Democratic party exactly the same way, and end up voting either farther to the left.......and so we are left with an ever widening gap.

Praise God that this world is not our home, but we are strangers and pilgrims....I know I'm starting to feel like it.

Anyway, can someone represent the scriptural foundations to the mennonite position, and the scriptural foundation to an ideology which encourages participation the government of the republic of the United States (which I fear is quickly digressing into a democracy, in practice if not in name)? I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks

I believe God's will can counter our election system. We have evil leaders because we are becoming an evil nation. Still, we are commanded to follow the authority of the government as long as it doesn't require us to sin.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

If I got discouraged everytime a leader falls into sin, I would have stopped being a Christian long ago. We need Christians to run for office and vote, so we don't only have perverts in office.

Ya might want to stop in at the anabaptist (which includes us mennonite types) for some more info. Bear in mind that "not getting involved" doesn't always equal "doing nothing".

After looking at the platforms of the repubs, dems, constitution and libertarian party I went with the libertarians. I found them to be actually the most in-line with God's character. (while I don't agree with all their positions they do put more emphasis on personal choice and responsibility)

Other than that, I understand where you're coming from. Looking at the state of things with both parties and the direction our nation is headed it is easy to get discouraged. That's when I have to remind mself of Romans 13 ( as was posted) and that God is in control. Also, I need to remind myself that things will get very bad before the end.

Just because what happened the past
Few days doesn't mean that we should stop
Voting and that we should continue to vote
Because it is our right to vote
No matter how bad or good the politician is.
