I was just wondering about the diversity of Bible translations within the United Methodist Church. Is the NRSV the official translation? Are others used? If you could respond with your opinions or knowledge on the diversity of Bible translations in the UMC and/or what your particular church uses that would be helpful. Thanks a bunch.

I noticed my church recently replaced all of our pew Bibles and the Bibles we give out to people that don't have one, with NIV (they used to be NRSV).

The church I attend has the NRSV as the pew Bibles.
Personally, I've read the KJV, NIV, New Living Translation and Today's English Version.
When the church gave me my first Bible (it was either 3rd grade or 4th grade) it was the RSV.

Personally, I use NKJV - but I like NIV, and I also enjoy reading New Century version too (mostly just for enjoyment!).

Every Methodist church I've attended has used the NRSV.

Our pew bibles are NRSV but our pastor generally preaches from the KJV. I use NASB or NIV for my devotions and study.

The Pew Bibles are KJV, as well as what is generally used. However the NRSV is used quite a bit too! Also "The Messege" has also found it's way into our church (but in a good way ;) )
I personally use the KJV and NRSV. I also have a NIV Bible but never use it.

There is no "official" translation in the UMC.
My church's pew bibles are NRSV. Various members in our church as well as the preacher use various translations. I own and use NIV, NAS, NRSV, ESV, KJV, Message, TLB.

My church here in NJ uses the KJV. I personally like and use NIV although I love the KJV for its beautiful style of writing.
