I saw my name!
I've not been able to get to a DL since August. (hangs head in shame)
It's been so crazy at my house lately, that's my only excuse. Haven't even been posting much. (shocking as that may seem)
Have been reading a lot of my books though.
It's going slower than I expected, not mentally but physically. I figured by this time I'd already be a catechumen.

Annabel, trust in the mercy of God. All will happen in his time. Trust me, I just learned that the hard way in another area of my life (and if you don't believe me, Khaleas can certainly vouch for it).

Extremely shocking!! That's why I started the thread ;)
Don't worry about the speed of the progress, the "destination" is worth the wait!:D

It is shocking. I find that I've lost the urge to argue about every little thing on this forum.
Right now I just want to 'be still'. I'm hoping that that is a good thing.

I believe you. :)
I was in such a frantic rush; ordering books, reading every Orthodox website I could find etc...and then BANG! All of these real life issues were put in my path. It was almost like God was telling me to slow down.
That's the way it seemed. I don't know.
So I'm busy with my daughters and starting school on October 4th. Interestingly enough, the school is 5 minutes from a fairly large Orthodox Church and I'll be able to make it to their Wednesday DL.

It's been going slow for me too, but my life is in such a mess right now that it is probably for the best. :)

I think being put in a position where you HAVE to take this slow can be a very, very good thing. So much of what we do in our lives is tied to impulse and we're always racing to get from one thing to the next.
Let this grow on its own time. Rob's right, the destination is worth the wait.

The destination IS worth the wait, and worth the wierd paths that God often takes us down to get there. Who would have ever thought back in spring as I was applying to St. Vincent 1996 that I (the most Pope loving Catholic you would ever meet) would spend only one year in seminary, become an iconographer and embrace Orthodoxy 3 years later?

This has changed, I went to a Divine Liturgy this morning.
Met a good friend from TAW there too. :)

I was speaking with my Priest after D/L on yesterday, and I told him that the off the cuff affirmations were happening on a pretty regular basis.
I ordered a book by a well known Protestant philosopher whom I have read many times and whom I use in some of my classes.....it is about the intellectual life as a Christian calling. I opened the book and within 10 pages he quotes Fr. Seraphim Rose! I dropped my teeth.
Thank God for patience and affirmations.

I have good days, and I have bad days. I have been in a creative funk until recently, which is a very bad thing. I haven't forgotten about emailing you the three essays on iconography. I will get those to you soon. I wrote the vast majority of a fourth essay on iconography on Saturday. God made sure to get me in a place and time where I had nothing to do for 6 hours, so the essay was pretty much written. Today I spent an hour and a half cleaing hot pepper so I can make salsa tomorrow!

Dropping your teeth. My, I haven't heard that expression in ages.
I have been laughing so hard that my teeth dried, my lips stuck to my teeth, and then I had trouble closing my mouth.
Regarding passages in books suddenly jumping out at you .... My professor in one of my graduate classes told us that Chomsky is published because he has name recognition, not because he writes well. In fact, people have great difficulty understanding what he is trying to say. Other professors write texts books trying to explain Chomsky's concepts to students.
I do have several of his writings and it seems like Chomsky has blinders on. He has made some absolutely incredible statements on the infinitely creative words we speak ... yet he doesn't believe in the Infinite Creative Word.
I read his works and I say to myself, he really ought to be a Christian, yet he lacks the faith.

Hi  Just thought I'd update.
Started an 8 month nursing program (Medical assistant) a few weeks ago. Been doing well and despite it being 17 years since I took any type of class, managed to get two 100% and an 87 and 89 on all four of the tests.
Learned how to give injections and managed to do it correctly. (on real human beings!)
Also performed a venipuncture and actually found the vein and drew the blood correctly.
The learning is fast and intense but I'm enjoying the pace and keeping up.
It's a 60 mile round trip, 5 days a week.
Oh well I'm tired.
Oh yes...other news! My other pregnant daughter is also having boy. Our female dynasty is coming to an end..lol (I had three girls and my mother had three girls)
My daughters are thrilled but confused. "A boy? What's that?"
You'd think that aliens were visiting. :)
Goodnight all

Congrats! Boys are so much fun! We had the same thing in my family. My grandmother came from a family of 6 girls, my mom had only sisters and I have only a sister. My sons' generation is a bunch of boys and one girl.

Hi Annabel
I became a catechumen in July. Usually Im in a such a rush to be a big know-it-all but God seems to have squashed those plans... I guess you could say Im being put in my place, and I generally have very little to say.
Its neat to see you here in TAW after seeing you around the boards in the past...

Hey Aria
I made it! (about 9:20) and stayed till the end. Unfortunately, I had to fly out immediately to make it to school on time and couldn't stop and say hello to Father.
I was the strange woman in the back wearing blue scrubs.

That's okay. This was my second visit, so the nervousness is gone.
Once I know where the entrance to the church is, I'm a-ok  I do so despise walking around a church and looking lost.
The goal is to blend in. :)

You will blend in as long as you don't wear white on Holy Friday. Don't ask. :D :sorry:

Okay.
I thought you might want to know.
When I was still in the Melkite Eastern Catholic Church, I visited an Antiochian Church for their Good Friday service. That year the difference between Western Easter and Pascha was five weeks. Since we had celebrated Pascha long ago, I was accustomed to wearing white. Besides my Protestant friend was also wearing white since the temperature outside was unseasonably warm, in fact, it was quite hot. Anyway, we arrived at this Orthodox Church to find that everyone was dressed in black or somber colors. We were the only ones wearing white. So, we stood out like a sore thumb.
