God is both. The Trinity is three Persons in one God. We cannot hope to explain it in human terms; it is one of the great mysteries of God.

You have got to define "oneness." Many may see this thread and not know what you mean.
Oneness is referring to the position that God is a divine Monad . . . there is NO plurality at all. Jesus is the Father, the Son and the Spirit . . . just appearing differently at different times. The doctrine of Trinity is a infiltration by early paganism in the church . . . and as such is not true.
Actually Oneness is an ancient heresy called Modalistic Monarchianism, or Modalism. I believe Paul of Samosata (sp?) was one of the early proponents . . . but this movement was denounced as heretical.
The 2 biggest issues against the Oneness position are:
1. The clarity and preciseness of the Greek.
2. The lack of biblical support that the Oneness apologists give for their positions . . . most is bad hermeneutics and forced philosophical constructs.

Oh yeah . . . you may want to move this thread to the Non part./Commentary sub forum . . . as this is supposed to be the forum for official debates (ie with rules and stuff).

Your thoughts? And Why?[/quote]
I WILL NOT DEBATE THIS.........
The Father planned it; the Son executed it; the Spirit revealed it. The Father, the Son and the Spirit are three different persons although they have the same essence. But there is also a second word—LORD, which we simply translate Jehovah. Jehovah is in the singular and it always refers only to one person—sometimes to the Father, sometimes to the Son, and sometimes to the Holy Spirit. Elohim is a plural word used here because all three members of the Trinity were involved in the creation. The phrase “in the beginning,” bereshith, means that time actually began when creation began.

Um . . . actually the "elohim is plural" arguement is weak to try and prove Trinity.

God lives in another dimension so to speak. He lives outside and above our own existence. I try to think of it this way after reading C.S. Lewis's take on it:
God lives in a kind of 4th dimension whereas we live in a 3 dimensional world (height, depth and width).
He isn't limited to our 3 dimensional world. Hence the word "trinity" to try to help explain this. Very difficult to explain. Even more difficult to understand.
C.S. Lewis's book, Mere Christianity, is the only book that I've read that has been the closest book to helping me understand it.

the scripture that tends to precipitate this is :
The Lord ( jehovah ) is one God ( elohiem plural )
Let us (elohiem) create man , in our (plural) image
baptism of Jesus ... jesus in the water , god speaking , holy spirit descending ...
trinity is not mentioned , but "implied" ...

God has stamped His very nature in the bible, humanity, world, & universe. Everywhere you look is trinity.
Let me try and explain in layman’s terms…
When God in beginning of creation was doing His work, everything He created was “good”. Then when man was created, God said, “It is not good…” because man was alone. God has never been alone, there was always community in God, and the minimum number of a community is 3. God created man in His image, (from the Father & the Son comes the Holy Spirit and in like manner, from a man and a woman comes forth a child). This is the very nature of God, the family representing the stamp of God is all through the bible, and even in the law.
There is so much I would like to add about God stamping His nature on everything in life’s existence as being in threes. Look at the atom, it’s made up of 3 elements yet it is one design that creates all living and non living things. The universe is made up of stars, planets, and moons, the earth would not have it’s life on it with out land, water, & sky.
Oh how I wished I had the time to speak of so much more of God’s absolute proof as read in the bible and is seen in our daily lives that stamps the evidence of our triune God.

I disagree!! me, me, me
I haven't been shown a clear verse in the Bible yet that shows me that God and Jesus Christ are the same person. A person simply standing at a podium in church on Sunday morning won't convince me of it either. I have researched the Bible and still plan to research it further on my own and along with other people and I don't think I'll ever find a verse that will convince me that God and Jesus Christ are the same person.
I see many, many verses referring to Jesus Christ as the son of God but I have "never" seen a single verse that says or implies "God the son." Until I've been shown that then I will not believe that God and Jesus Christ are one in the same. Besides, if that were true, then why did God go to such great lengths to implant Jesus Christ in Mary's womb so she could give birth to him? God is the almighty and powerful enough to create the heavens and the earth as well as created Adam & Eve from soil of the earth - but yet he couldn't form himself in to a human and just appear on earth as Jesus?? This makes it seem even more true to me that Jesus Christ IS in fact God's son sent down to do the work of his FATHER as it says in the Bible. Nowhere in the Bible does it say he is God. I do not believe in the trinity either (obviously right, lol).

What verse are you referring to in particular? I agree that Jesus Christ was created in the image of God. But aren't our children also conceived and in the image of their own parents? Jesus Christ is the SON of God so it makes sense that he is going to be in his image. He was holy, without blame, Godly in all ways because that's what he was sent here to do. I say my kids are just like their dad all the time but it doesn't mean they are one in the same people just because they are a "spitting image" of him. I think some people just put TOO much thought in to the words in the Bible and don't think about how God really meant them.

—Usage note One as an indefinite pronoun meaning “any person indefinitely, anyone” is more formal than you, which is also used as an indefinite pronoun with the same sense: One (or you) should avoid misconceptions. One (or you) can correct this fault in three ways. When the construction requires that the pronoun be repeated, either one or he or he or she is used; he or he or she is the more common in the United States: Wherever one looks, he (or he or she) finds evidence of pollution. In speech or informal writing, a form of they sometimes occurs: Can one read this without having their emotions stirred?
In constructions of the type one of those who (or that or which), the antecedent of who is considered to be the plural noun or pronoun, correctly followed by a plural verb: He is one of those people who work for the government. Yet the feeling that one is the antecedent is so strong that a singular verb is commonly found in all types of writing: one of those people who works for the government. When one is preceded by only in such a construction, the singular verb is always used: the only one of her sons who visits her in the hospital.
The substitution of one for I, a typically British use, is usually regarded as an affectation in the United States. See also he (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=he)1, they (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=they).

On the Trinity
[from the end of On Heresies] [Saint John of Damascus, Writings, Tr. F.H. Chase, The Fathers of the Church, Catholic University, 1958. p. 161-3.]
We believe in Father and Son and Holy Ghost;
one Godhead in three hypostases;
one will, one operation, alike in three persons;
wisdom incorporeal, uncreated, immortal, incomprehensible,
without beginning, unmoved, unaffected, without quantity,
without quality, ineffable, immutable, unchangeable, uncontained,
equal in glory, equal in power, equal in majesty, equal in might, equal in nature,
exceedingly substantial, exceedingly good,
thrice radiant, thrice bright, thrice brilliant.
Light is the Father, Light the Son, Light the Holy Ghost;
Wisdom the Father, Wisdom the Son, Wisdom the Holy Ghost;
one God and not three Gods;
one Lord the Holy Trinity discovered in three hypostases.
Father is the Father, and unbegotten;
Son is the Son, begotten and not unbegotten, for He is from the Father;
Holy Ghost, not begotten but proceeding, for He is from the Father.
There is nothing created, nothing of the first and second order, nothing lord and servant;
but there is unity and trinity
- there was, there is, and there shall be forever -
which is perceived and adored by faith -
by faith, not by inquiry, nor by searching out, nor by visible manifestation;
for the more He is sought out, the more He is unknown, and the more He is investigated, the more He is hidden.
And so, let the faithful adore God with a mind that is not overcurious. And believe that He is God in three hypostases, although the manner in which He is so is beyond manner, for God is incomprehensible. Do not ask how the Trinity is Trinity, for the Trinity is inscrutable.
But, if you are curious about God, first tell me of yourself and the things that pertain to you. How does your soul have existence? How is your mind set in motion? How do you produce your mental concepts? How is it that you are both mortal and immortal? But, if you are ignorant of these things which are within you, then why do you not shudder at the thought of investigating the sublime things of heaven?
Think of the Father as a spring of life begetting the Son like a river and the Holy Ghost like a sea, for the spring and the river and sea are all one nature.
Think of the Father as a root, and of the Son as a branch, and the Spirit as a fruit, for the substance in these three is one.
The Father is a sun with the Son as rays and the Holy Ghost as heat.
The Holy Trinity transcends by far every similitude and figure. So, when you hear of an offspring of the Father, do not think of a corporeal offspring. And when you hear that there is a Word, do not suppose Him to be a corporeal word. And when you hear of the Spirit of God, do not think of wind and breath. Rather, hold you persuasion with a simple faith alone. For the concept of the Creator is arrived at by analogy from His creatures.
Be persuaded, moreover, that the incarnate dispensation of the Son of God was begotten ineffably without seed of the blessed Virgin, believing Him to be without confusion and without change both God and man, who for your sake worked all the dispensation. And to Him by good works give worship and adoration, and venerate and revere the most holy Mother of God and ever-virgin Mary as true Mother of God, and all the saints as His attendants.
Doing thus, you will be a right worshiper of the holy and undivided Trinity, Father and Son and Holy Ghost, of the one Godhead, to whom be glory and honor and adoration forever and ever. Amen
