Do our thoughts and emotions come from our logical mind/brain or do they come from our soul?
If you believe they come from our mind/brain then where does the soul come into play?
If you believe they come from the soul then does the mind/brain have any thinking or decision making ability at all and where do these two separate these functions?
I'll enjoy reading your responses. :)

JS,
There is so much we don't know about the brain, how it functions, etc.
My *personal* belief is that my communication with God(prayer) is thru a sort of mental/spiritual telepathy. And He speaks to all believers in the same sort of way, just my opinion. I believe this back and forth communication uses my physical brain AND my spirit, and of course God's spirit. I don't think you can separate the brain from the spirit, or from the body. I believe brain/spirit/body all work together as a whole.
hmmmm......kind of like right now my spirit is expressing itself to you, and the vehicle for that communication is my brain, via the "brain" of my computer, along with the use of a telephone line, servers, etc.:P

JesusServant I don't have a clue how to seperate the two.
I do know from experience that we can have thoughts that come from the enemy. What this says as to where thoughts come from--I'm not sure.
I do know that as I learned to use the sword of the spirit (the Word of God) to control my thoughts, my emotions came under control too--as my husband would be very happy to atest to!! :)

The ancient Greek philosophers combined the two into mind-soul, or psyche. Personally, I don't think you can draw a line where the mind ends and the soul begins, or vice versa. It's a mystery of God that taps the deep mythic/archetypal vein of our being. :)

This is probably one of those questions that we will never be able to answer until we are in the presence of the Lord.
