If you could change one thing about yourself or your life what would it be?

Wow! Deep question to start off with. Let's see here.... One thing.....

I'd have to say that I would change the fact that I let myself get overweight many years ago and that now I have Type II Diabetes as a result. I wish that I had lead a healthier life and could have possibly avoided this illness.

Hey Red!

Yes, I do enjoy swimming quite a bit! Its one of my favorite ways to cool off and relax in the midst of a hot Texas summer. :)

Watching my dad have some serious complications with diabetes, I encourage you to make some lifestyle changes. He's trying to make lifestyle changes to not have to deal with some of the complications. The doctor told him once you reach a certain level with diabetes it's hard going back.

What's your favorite sport?

Football. :)

Thanks for the diabetes advice... and I'm sorry to hear your father is diabetic. It's really a horrible disease. I am trying to get things under control now to avoid or minimize problems in the future. I've lost about 30 pounds and have about 60 more to go. And I'm taking enough medicine that I should own stock in Walgreen's Pharmacy. :)

Alright I got 3 for ya.

1) why do you want to control people (by being a moderator)?

2) will you, like some other moderators, read into what a person types in order to read someone's mind, tell them what they are thinking, and possibly punish them for what they think?

3) don't you know college football stinks compared to the NFL? (it does, some nfl rookies say they learn more in 1 day of training camp than in 4 years of college plus look at how routine scores of like 77-3 are.)

Alright I got 3 for ya.

1) why do you want to control people (by being a moderator)?Hmm... Well, I have no desire to control people. I look at the position of Moderator as a servant, not a position of authority.

2) will you, like some other moderators, read into what a person types in order to read someone's mind, tell them what they are thinking, and possibly punish them for what they think?I learned a long long time ago that the electronic medium is problematic when it comes to conveying emotion and contextual meaning. I learned this via our email system at work, after receiving what I percieved as a very harshly written email from my manager... only to discover that I had read the opening statement out of context and that gave the entire message a negative slant...

That said... I think that all of the staff here are going to always do their best to look at the actual content of a message and do the best we can to make a fair, unbiased and consistent decision. [/quote]

3) don't you know college football stinks compared to the NFL? (it does, some nfl rookies say they learn more in 1 day of training camp than in 4 years of college plus look at how routine scores of like 77-3 are.)I actually enjoy both NFL and NCAA football. I love the passion that the college players have for the game. Too many pro's lose that passion and start playing for the huge paychecks. But, like I said... I enjoy both. Looking forward to Monday Night Foodball tonight! *wanders off huming the Monday Night Football theme song*

God Bless!

How old were you when you learned you had diabetes?

Did you ever drive to California?

I found out that I had diabetes when I was 30. Happened quite by accident. My wife (fiancee at the time) had been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. Her doctor ordered daily blood glucose tests, so we went and bought a blood meter. Being the loving guy that I was, I stuck myself first to show her that it didn't hurt that much. Well... surprise to surprise... my sugar showed to be 286 mg/dl. My first thought was... hmmm... this meter must be defective; so I stuck myself again and again 286 mg/dl. Darn defective meter... :)

So we check Aimee's sugar and find it to be 78 or so. Now I start getting butterflies in my stomach. Being a paramedic, I know that 286 is way too high... even after a carb-binge pasta dinner from Macaroni Grill. Well... It's all history now. I ended up going to a doc and getting officially diagnosed. Type 2 Diabetes.

Now I am taking 4 different medications and on a strict diet. My blood sugar has been running very well lately (<120 consistently) and I've lost about 35 pounds.

It's been a long three years... but for the first time I really am beginning to feel like this disease is under control. (Praise God!)

:)

Driving to California... As a matter of fact... We are driving to San Diego at the end of October. ;) The plan is to make a mini vacation out of a business trip. Aimee and I are both really excited!
