I was wondering what you all (or your congregations, if that's where you want to refer from) thought about interdenominational marriage. I'm talking within Christianity, I'm not talking cross-religions or really even what some might consider "Christian Cults" although I guess if you have a comment on one of those you can make it if you really, really, really feel like you have to. But I would like to focus on inter-denominational marriage. This being, since we are an ecumenical church may seem like a one-sided opinion, but I think some might go in different directions concerning this union. And to farther this thread, after you make your opinion/stance, is it different if we were discussing this issue regarding a pastor (try to imagine would your reaction be any different if your pastor married someone from a different denomination compared to your "average member")? Thanks.

When I was married, my wife was a Methodist and really felt that she should stay within the Methodist Church. We were married at the Church she was raised in and even started going to a Methodist Church near our new house...

At the time, I was a bit indifferent in regards to religion anyway and was not very active in my faith... Long story short, we ended up at a Lutheran Church simply by stumbling in and felt welcomed immediately by the spirit filled congregation. Thereafter, we started to grow in our faith and learn about what it means to be a Lutheran. I was never very active in Church growing up...

One thing I feel is important is that the family attends Church together. As Luther said, we are the Bishops of our house. I believe families should commune together...

Don't know if that answered your question or not...

Uh, personally, I wouldn't have a problem with inter-religious marriage, as long as they don't conflict... which of course, does happen fairly often if the faiths are strong. But the wife of a pastor is a bit different. As unfair as it may seem, the wife of a pastor has duties to the church too, to an extent.
