Hello all

I attend Liberty University (Jerry Falwell's university) and if you read some of my posts here in this forum you would see that I like the Hebrew language and culture. But here at Liberty they do not offer Biblical Hebrew as an undergraduagte study:cry: Many of the universities and colleges on the eastern coast do offer the course though, but it was disheartening to see that we did not.

So I took it upon myself to email the Chairman of Biblical Studies, Dean of Religion, President, and Chancellor (Falwell himself) and bring it to their attention that if we want to compete with other Christian universites and colleges we seriously need to offer Biblical Hebrew (we already offer NT Greek) so that we would truly introduce our Biblical Studies students (myself included) to Biblical languages to prepare for seminary.

Here are the responses I received:

1) Chairman of Biblical Studies
--I wanted to have Biblical Hebrew before but the "higher powers" at LU said it was too much money. But I support your view and your effort, but you need to appeal higher. Good Luck!

2) Dean of Religion
--Note from his secretary: He is out of town but Monday I will give him your email.

3) President
--Son, you have made your points very clear and having extra Biblical languages would improve our curriculum. I will get the VP of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Seminary to research what will be needed to do this. We will begin working on this issue.

So far everything is looking good but I didn't know what Dr. Falwell would say because he never reads his email, until I bumped into him and asked him what he thought about the situation.
His reply was: "I don't see why not. It would be good to have Biblical Hebrew as an undergrade course. Talk to the President (who was right beside him) about this and see what we can do."

Wow!!! Being diligent does pay off! It looks as if we are on the way to having the first Biblical Hebrew courses here at LU in the next year or so! And to think I had a part in changing my university! That is cool!

What do you guys think about it?

God Bless

AMEN & AMEN, brother!
I am so glad you persued this and I pray that they will implement a Hebrew program. What a blessing...
I myself am currently switching some credits over from Philadelphia College of Bible's Jewish Studies program to RTS here in Orlando (I live in Tampa). I look forward to seeing how RTS's Hebrew Program goes.
Keep us updated!
God Bless!

Congratulations.

Unfortunately it is an all too common story to hear that colleges offering biblical studies don't teach Hebrew or Aramaic.

Good luck and be blessed!
