Just curious about what practices and stuff people have in their Messianic worship. I was sort of inspired from the Aliyha thread.

Personally I don't care for the "worship-style" CDs that go around these days. Just a matter of personal taste I think. In services I'm comfortable with just about anything so long as the spirit of the Lord is in it. Though I must admit to being particular enamored of the older Hebrew songs. I'm also a big fan of Davidic dancing and Israeli folk dancing. I'm surprised that dancing before the Lord is so discouraged in non-Messianic congregations.

One thing that discourages me about the only Messianic congregation in the area around me (and why I've never attended it) doesn't allow people to dance or worship with the congregation unless they "do it properly". For me its much more the spirit of the worship that matters and I can't attend a congregation that is so focused on ritual.

There are about as many different styles of worships I think as there are Messianic congregations. A few of my notable experiences are visiting with a Russian Messianic Jewish congregation and worshipping in Hebrew/Russian. Much more somber and solemn (which I can appreciate). Its nice being able to sing Hebrew worship songs with people whom you can't even talk to. We don't speak each other's spoken languages, but we can worship together in one language! I've also met with a small group of Sephardic Messianic Jews and got to hear Ladino worship music, which is definitely very beautiful music

Anyways I'd like to hear everyone else's stories of worshipping our Savior from their Messianic congregation.

I am one of those people that adore worship CD's - they transform my car into a mobile sanctuary ;)
I have attended many different Messianic Synagagues and I was happy to see that most encourage dancing and you don't have to do it "The right way". However, I used to take Israeli Folk dancing lessons and Davidic dancing and I traveled with a local Messianic dance team called "Streams in the Desert". We travelled locally and were surprised at how many Jewish centers allowed us to come dance even though they were not Messianic.
I adore the style of worship that allows us to express our adoration for our Messiah.

Talmid, on a side-note, have you also been to Russia? I went this past summer to do missionary work.

I haven't been to Russia yet, though I would be interested to. My Messianic congregation in Seattle had a sister congregation that was Russian Messianic for all the immigrant Russian Jews.

Its also nice being in Israel with people from all around the world, Russia, France, Argentina, etc. and being able to sing many of the same worship songs in Hebrew.

P.S. - took me a while to realize I hadn't responded to this, sorry. Where are all the rest of you forum posters though?

Where is everyone these days!

Yes, I also enjoyed being part of the congregations in Israel with people from all over the world. It's amazing how God uses His songs to unify His people.

I'm here I'm here!  But, I can't contribute anything useful because I'm not a Messianic Jew.  I just sit back, read, listen, ponder and learn from you fine folk. :)

Did I hear someone's from Seattle?

I went to college in Seattle and lived there for more consecutive years of my life than anywhere else. So yeah, I guess I'm from Seattle.  :)

Hi Talmid, I know what you mean..it seems to vary in Messianic congregations.. some are a little more "free" in their spiritual worship than others. You haven't listed where you are from.. but here are some websites that may be able to assist you in finding congregation within your area or not far from your area:

www.hebroots.com/messcong.html (http://www.hebroots.com/messcong.html)

www.yashanet.com/messcong1.htm (http://www.yashanet.com/messcong1.htm)

www.umjc.org/umjchome.htm (http://www.umjc.org/umjchome.htm)

Hope these help..
