Do you kneel when you pray? What physical position do you take when you pray? Does it even matter to you?

in the Scriptures, we see many many people keeling to pray (Daniel is a wonderful example).

There are also as lot of examples in scripture of standing to pray. Within traditional judaism kneeling is mostly only done on Yom Kippur.
I don't really have a favorite position, although when I say the amidah (aka the standing prayer) I always stand. :)

What an interesting question!
I have different positions. Sometimes I kneel. Though, I find myself standing, walking, or sitting on the couch meditating on the Lord while reading the Scriptures. And there are those special times when I'm in prayer & am lying prostrate on the floor. Those are really awesome times when the spirit of the Lord is so strong.
As to the importance of such positions, I always been told that the position of your heart is what's important. For example, it matters not what physical position you're in if you're heart is not in tune with God.
Yours truly in Christ,

I agree with Sojourner. It depends on the heart, without doubt.
But I do find that in times when I need strength, mercy and forgivness the most, I always prostrate on the floor. The presence of the Lord can be so strong that I don't want to leave at time. I could just pray for hours and hours.
But I restates, I would think It would depend on the heart.

There are many ways to pray of the few examples we have:
Standing, sitting, kneeling, on the face..
I purchased a book a while back but have only made a little headway into it, called "To Pray as a Jew" - very good and on the reading list of a Yeshiva I wanted to attend that is no more (sadly)..
It shows the examples and where they come from, how to don the Tallit and Tefillin... how to read the Siddur, some of the prayers.. etc.
A very good read, but I've been overloaded with books when I decided to pick it up, so I'll try again when I have less to read. heh

I pray kneeling (at my kneeler), standing, while lying on my bed at night, while taking walks, while doing dishes or any other house task, sitting, in the shower... :) :prayer:
