Has anyone seen this movie? It is one of those rare, PG movies that aren't cartoons. It is an adaptation of Anne Holms internationally acclaimed novel titled " North to Freedom'.

A young boy who has been raised on not trusting another living being is on a journey to freedom, trust, love, and family. It is truly moving.

I highly recommend this, though some of the violence is not for very young viewers.

An extraordinary family adventure, I AM DAVID follows a twelve year-old boy as he boldly escapes from an East European prison camp and makes an incredible personal journey to freedom. Fleeing with only a compass, half a loaf of bread and a sealed, secret letter he must carry across the continent, David cannot foresee the dramatic odyssey that awaits him

I rented the movie a couple of months ago and thought it was good. I've also read the book which I highly reccomend and it is a young persons book.

I don't know that it's based on any one person in particular but possibly several in general.

As usually is the issue when a movie is made from a book, I believe the book fills in what is missing or not clear in the movie. From what I can remember, the movie touches briefly on religion, and it's Catholic. The book however, shows David as asking for help from the God of the fields and the trees. I think the ending in the book ends a bit abruptly where the movie gives a different twist. I would recommend it for reading and viewing.
