View Full Version : Praise The Lord!

Let's send in some of our favorite scriptures. Mine is: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, becuase he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

I get goosbumps when I read this! Can you imagine the atmosphere?

P.S. I forgot to give the verse, Luke 4:18-21

4Jesus, I love your verse!  I'm wish I could have heard that! :)

Oh it is so hard to pick one--they are all so good!  ;)

How about these:

JN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

JN 1:14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Psalm 121:
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Amen. :)

Hi Terri! Excellent verses . How can anyone deny the diety of Jesus when they read this?

The other thing about my selection is that, it seems from the passage that the people were interested in what Jesus had to say until he told them how God had sent help to two heathens (vs.25-27) and not to back-slidden Israel. They tried to throw him off a cliff when he told them this (vs.28,29).

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-13

the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed... - I Corinthians 11:23b, NASB

Every time I hear those few little words during Mass, a little chill runs up and down my spine. It jars my senses, every time.

I also really like Psalm 51, the "Miserere mei, Deus". It totally explains the sorrow I feel in my heart whenever I sin. :(

Oh! I also really like to say Psalm 119 aloud as a long, soul-cleansing meditation. It repeats some of the same types of phrases over and over again. It's not "vain" either, hehe... :P

Thanks Joe, I have always found the passage in the 51st. Psalm beautiful:

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

It makes me think of when God said to the children of Israel that they drew near to Him with their mouths but their hearts were far from Him. May we all desire a clean heart.

Weeeeell, I'm off to the land of Nod  Sleep tight everyone, don't let the bed bugs bite and if they do, hit um with a shoe. ;)

Ever hear the song "Let it rain" on Micheal W. Smith's worship album.

It has in the middle Psalm 97 (the majority of NIV) read by some British dude. It's awesome!! I get goose bumps on that one too lol

There are so many that it is difficult to find a favorite. But for the moment at least my favorite is.

Phil 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say rejoice!
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxoius for nothing, but in everything in prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and minds in Christ Jesus.

PS 84:1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!

PS 84:2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

PS 84:3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young--a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

PS 84:4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.

Selah

PS 84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

PS 84:6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

PS 84:7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

PS 84:8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob.

Selah

PS 84:9 Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one.

PS 84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

PS 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

PS 84:12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.
