Can I have your autograph?

There is a televangelist in my hometown who autographs (signs his name on) the title page of Bibles. What are your thoughts on this? Do you consider this an act of sacrilege?

Do you mean, kind of like he's signing his book?  Hmmm......

Good question two feathers.  If I had the opportunity to listen to Billy Graham, I might ask him to write his name in my Bible if the occassion arose (which I doubt it ever will ;)).  Maybe.

Well, I suppose it depends upon where his heart is, which is difficult to know.  If he sets himself to be a "mini-god", the attitude may be one of he's autographing his own book.  That would be bad.

Like I mentioned before, Billy Graham to me is a great guy.  His teaching is clear and concise, and gives all glory to God.  Some of those tv evangelists, I have a yucky feeling about them.

What do you think two feathers?  How do you feel about this?

I have heard of this practice before. People hear a pastor or evangelist preach a good sermon and they ask them to autograph their Bibles. I personally do not like this because God deserves all Glory and we should be glad to be even called His servents. Our autograph is worthless and to think that it does have some value is only kidding ourselves.

 :eek: I would say that it is permissible to do that, but certainly not beneficial.  :D

I guess if the person wants the person to sign their Bible there is nothing wrong with that, but I certainly wouldn't want it! :(

Sense I do not know the person your talking about, then I would consider it a waste of space that could be used to take notes or write something that could jog your memory of your favorite verse.

If it was an annointed sermon, the annointing can go from the evengelist to the Bible. I don't know how long it would stay there. There was a case in the Bible where someone was raised from the dead, by the annointing that was still in the bones of a prophet of God. Our pastor once traded in a car and about three months later he found out that the women who bought the car had a son who was sick, and he was healed when he rode in the car.

I have a big problem with it. I don't understand why he feels the need to autograph Bibles. It's one thing to grant someone's request and sign a picture or a piece of paper, but to actually autograph your name to the Holy Scriptures is to me- sacrilegious. I strongly object to his actions. I see it as being greatly disrespectful to the Word of God, at the least.

Besides, should preachers(whether they are on T.V. or not) even be signing autographs? As Br. Max stated above, it does seem to be a bit egotistical.

i agree that it depends on where his heart is. personally i find it a little weird. i don't think i'd be comfortable getting an autograph in my bible.

That's definitely an odd question there...

It might be on the title page as a marketing ploy... and that the title page is just a convienient page to sign on for him. I don't know what he's thinking. 1 Corinthians 13 says that love is ready to believe the best in people right? (1 Corinthians 13:7 AMP) Until you are sure that his motives are off-center, I'd say don't worry about it too much.

I think it's just kind of strange.

I mean, if you wanted to get the guy's autograph because you liked what he had to say or whatever...and all you had was a Bible...then I guess it'd be okay.

But if it's his general practice to just go around signing people's Bibles because that's what he wants to sign of theirs instead of a paper or a bulletin from a program or something....then...yeah...it's kind of odd in my opinion.

A Bible, itself, is just a book. The message contained therein may be of the utmost importance, but the book itself is just a book.

I write in mine, take notes, draw pictures when the message is boring. The first three or four pages of mine is full of folks' autographs. I've asked many people in my church, friends and fellow Christians whom God has used to speak to me to sign it and, if they like, to make a little note.

I don't see anything wrong with this.

It's much more important to write God's word on your heart than to revere a book.

I write in my Bible, add my cross references, highlight stuff, I think that's good.
I think getting anyone's autograph is not so good.
People are either covenant keepers, or covenant breakers. If they're covenant keepers, they'll be in heaven with me & we'll both be too preoccupied by being in the presence of God to notice each other.
If they're covenant breakers, they have nothing of everlasting value to give me, including their autograph.
