My fiance's Oma [Grandma] Klein fell either today or yesterday and has hurt herself. I don't know if anything has been broken or just popped out of joint/bruised.

What I do know is that she is in the hospital and likely won't be coming down to visit on the 17th with everyone else (and obviously neither will Opa Klein); so we will visit them within the week/days we stay with Tante [aunt] Sabine.

Andreas had been on the phone with his cousin when he heard that this had happened. From what I understand she's stable. I don't know if it was due to the surgery (knee replacement and adjustment to the new joints) or if it was just one of those things.

Please be in prayer for comfort and healing. Oma and Opa Klein are up in their 80s.

I'll be able to better update everyone tomorrow evening.

Blessed are you, L-rd G-d, King of the Universe, where all good things come from. I humbly ask that you bless Oma Klein with healing and relief from pain. I further ask that you bring the peace that passes understanding for both Oma and Opa Klein that only knowing You can bring. Let these requests bring glory to You. In the name of Y'shua I pray.

Amen

I talked with Andreas this morning.

He said what happened is that Oma Klein fell once she had gotten up the steps and into the hallway area of the house. She has a spiral break on her thigh bone where it goes to join with the knee.

It was either this year or last that she had knee replacement, and she is in surgery today to have her leg repaired. They will be fixing the break and adding in some metal (I guess as screws to stabilize? Or to better allow for movement of the knee?) to help her out.

I am unsure how long the hospital stay will be. There are some complications of course with her being diabetic and up in age, so I think they'll keep her for at least a few days (maybe a week) and get her into rehabilitation so she can be up and moving again with her walker.

Thanks

Unfortuantely she will be out of circulation for a while. She will need physcial therapy once she is released and will probably stay in a convalesent home until the PT is completed.

We will pray for speedy recovery and complete healing.

I talked with Andreas for a minute, and he said that he just found out his grandma had a mini-stroke last night. Apparently the doctors caught it and cancelled her surgery this afternoon/evening.

She is still in the hospital for observation and they will reschedule everything. I have a feeling the surgery will be sometime next week rather than this weekend.

I don't know if she and her husband are believers or not.

Here's what I do know: they were raised catholic instead of in our faith or traditional Judaism because they lived in German Yugoslavia as German Jews in the years leading up to and after WWII.

They were able to pass through into Germany to flee the Russian army - and because Oma couldn't speak German (but Opa could) he was able to go through the processing in the Camps quickly but she was held back until she was vouched for (both have blonde hair and blue eyes).

She had to learn German once she moved to Germany, and within a few years married Opa, who is a distant (third or more) cousin to her.

She has diabetes and has a hereditary knee condition where the knee and bones above and below somehow solidify into each other (my fiance and his mom have this condition too and have had a knee surgery or two to correct it) . I don't know what it's called (translation issues) but it can be serious.

She has been unable to walk without assistance of a cane or walker or spends much time in a chair or wheelchair.

Unfortunately Oma and Opa seek "our lady of lourdes" for healing. :(

She and He, have been Andreas' supporter (other than self) to say what we are doing is right and a good way to live out our faith, something that wasn't afforded to them in their lives. They also support his choice to not drink any strong drink. (he won't touch even wine for shabbat or the holidays)

They are very sweet, but the two short times i 've met them, I haven't had a chance to ask anything about what they believe. It's possible they're saved, but you never know.

My fiance was raised as they were and didn't know Y'shua until we began to talk.

So salvation may also be an issue.

Let us speak life into the situation and not limit G-d.

Abba, Father, we know what man has deemed acceptable and necessary in this situation, but you alone are above all that, you alone can cause immediate healing, with no intervention from man, you alone can work even with man but change the known outcome. I pray that what is done is done in Your will alone. I pray that you can use this 'bad' for good, that you will use this situation in these peoples lives to draw them closer to you and to reveal your truths to them. That this will enlarge their faith, and witness your glory. May all things be done according to Your will, in the Name of Yeshua.

I didn't get a chance to update yesterday As I had some serious food shopping to do in preparation for my trip today through the 25th.

Andreas said that his grandmother's heart attack was worse than first thought and if she hadn't have broken her leg and been in the hospital as she was, she probably would have died.

She has stabilized and was moved to recovery late Shabbat, and then was moved on Sunday from the hospital she was in, to one closer to her town. They are talking about going ahead with surgery sometime this week.

I fly out today from Alabama, hitch a "ride" in Atlanta and will arrive about 2:30 central standard time in Germany. I will keep everyone updated as I get news.

hi everyone. I am here. There have been good and bad days, but Oma Klein is set to have surgery tuesday.

I dont think we will get to see her this visit because from what I heard, her heart is blocked in three major arteries, and if she gets upset, it could turn things worse. She is quite upset she missed our legal marriage ceremony, and said if we came to see her, it would be upsetting because she is so sad about missing that and not being able to come to the wedding next year either...

I said ok.

So, Now I am a frau... legally. LOL

I have a new last name. Ö

So far, so good.

Will update more when I get a chance to sit at a computer

yep Matty, as of the 14th, I am legally married. We will have a ceremony (''church wedding'') next June 23rd at my Schul.

they do things alot differently here it seems when it comes to signing the legal paperwork.

Back home, you sign, witnesses sign and you have an option to have a church wedding or not, and if you do, it isnt finalized until the pastor or rabbi signs the paper and you send it into the state.

here, you sign all kinds of legal hoodads and then you have a legal ceremony (much like the church wedding, without all the pomp and grandeur) and then are turned loose to have a church wedding with the pomp and grandeur or not, either way everyone sees you as married.

Back home, without the big ceremony in the open, or at least a small one at home, most are like 'oh, they had a Justice of the Peace wedding - must not have been able to afford ''the real thing'''

it's something i will have to get used to.

I am going down to Rastatt today to see Opa Klein. will update everyone as more news comes in.

hi all, sorry for the long hiatus.

I was
In Germany until the 25th, when I flew back around 11:20 local time there (4:20 cst).

So much happened on the trip. Oma Klein FINALLY had her surgery late last week around Wednesday afternoon, but is having ups and downs.

Her heart has three arteries that are clogged, but they can't do ANY surgery until she does better from her knee surgery.

Just brushing her hair caused her blood pressure to skyrocket.. so things are tense still. Poor Opa Klein is just in pieces. He can't really do anything but stay with her, hope and pray, but things are so up and down he is on an emotional roller coaster.

I will update more as I can, and create a thread later (hopefully!) about the civil ceremony and include photos.

Magnesium and Omega 3 oils effectively reduce platelet stickiness and thereby stop adherance to the arterial walls. EPA and DHA are effective blood thinners and wonderful modifiers for inflammatory pathways so they would be good to promote healing.

I talked with Andreas last night as I was driving home, and he said his Oma is doing better, but isn't quite out of the woods.
The doctors have decided that it's not such a great idea to attempt a bypass surgery on her heart due to her response with the knee surgery and how she is in the hospital in general, not to mention her age.
The best option would be a total heart replacement - but since she's in her 80s, this is not an option they will use at all.

I will pass on the information Visionary and see what my mother in law says, since she is a nurse and try to get someone to suggest it to her, if not buy the "medicine" and give it to her husband as a precautionary.

We got our wedding pictures (the ones we had made the day after the civil ceremony) and I will upload later.
Something happened to my computer at home and I have limited access here at work now.
See ya'll and thanks again!

Mazel Tov Antz! and I am glad to here that things went OK for the surgery. I will pray for the need to not have anything more done surgically for her heart. May HaShem see in His goof will to unclog her arteries and give her peaceful more years!

No honeymoon until after our really official big bash on June 23rd.

I don't know. It's not up to me so I'm letting him plan everything.

All in G-d's time. May be near, may be far.. no idea. I just told him he has to tell me how to pack so I know what to bring at least. LOL
