Currently, I have 3 dust jackets on my desk because I am using the books and the jackets get annoying. But they are annoying just sitting around as well. Throw them away, why or why not? What would you do?

I take them off the book because they annoy me, and then they get lost. I end up finding them two or three years later. :)

If you plan to never get rid of the book then toss them. But if you're gonna resell then best to hang on to them-I generally put them away somewhere since I can't read a book with them on.

I like them - they're built in bookmarks and that's generally where the info about the author is. I rarely toss them.

Some dust jackets have their uses. I have a copy of the Catholic Apocryphal books (King James translation) on my bookshelf. Unfortunately, the guys who put the book together decided to leave no commentary whatsoever in the book itself, so it's all on the dust jacket. I decided to keep that one.

Ditto. Emphasis on the "if" part. :P

I'm the same. I'm a book collector, so I like to keep them as they were when I got them. I get irked every time I think about how I lost the dust jacket to an old version of Eyes of the Dragon.
And are we seriously having a discussion on dust jackets? That's just dang funny.

Meee too. You know, when I bought this house, my now husband told me when we had to move my "books" it was either him or them, he learned pretty quick not to make me choose!
I am OCD when it comes to my books; I have several first editions, complete sets...
God has even used them a time or two to teach me material lessons outside of reading them..Such as the time my puppies distroyed my very first bible:cry:, you know the one that you keep all your notes in. I got a new one.. but I still feel awful that it is gone. I learned not to be so attached, but still....
Yep, I keep those dust jackets on my books!

If I had the savvy, I'd totally do what Johnny Depp did in the 9th Gate, minus trying to find the book that could conjured Satan. But being a book detective sounds awesome.
I'd like to start adding some 15th-18th century books to my collection.

I agree that this is a funny discussion, just chimed in because I'm hungry to agree with The Lord's Envoy on something!:D
I disagree with the premise of keeping dust jackets though. They should be immediately removed from the book and burned, and their ashes scattered in the mud and stomped, preferably with really big boots.
