Today I was baptized in my local baptist church.
Would just like to share it with all you baptists out there.
After having been a non denominational christian for many years I decided to join the baptist church.
It was a long process for me to find out what church I wanted to be member of, but I think I have finally found
what I was looking for.

Would you care to share why you chose to join a denomination?
Thanks, God Bless :)

I felt a little bit isolated and didn't really feel like I belonged anywhere.
I wanted to part of a christian community and that was kind of difficult for me because I didn't
belong to any specific church. In my early christian walk I used to go to the lutherian norwegian church.
But this is a church where there are very few young people and I just didn't find my place there.
I do not think that you need to belong to any specific church in order to be saved,
so for me it was a matter of choosing a church that has a teaching that I feel is close to what I believe.
I've been thinking about being baptized again after I was born again, and therefor it was important for
me to join a church that practices the full immersion baptism. This is of course my personal belief
(no need to start a "is baptism nescessery for salvation debate" :))
Still, it is very important for me to build bridges between christians, and therefor I will still once in a while visit other denominations
and not isolate myself in the baptist church.
My local baptist church also believes in this, and they have lot of contact and gatherings with other
churches in my city.
Other reasons are for instance that there are no big non denominational churches
in my hometown. I live in a small town in northern Norway where non denominational is an expression
most people haven't even heard of.
I would also like to point out that the local baptist church has been really welcoming and friendly towards me.

Hi espen,
Nice to see you found a congregation to get involved in. If Christians in the US could see what a mess a state church naturally becomes they wouldn't be pushing so hard to create one in the US.
How far north are you, I know both sides of my family had some ancestors from north of Bergen?
Har en god dag!

AWESOME! Congratulations! I remember having that feeling a lot this summer, when I first started going to my church, becoming a Christian, and finally being baptized and becoming a member. It's amazing!

Don't know whether to thank you or pity you. ^_^ You've made a hard choice, and especially on this forum you'll come under fire for it. But hey, it is my opinion that Baptists preach and teach doctrines that are consistant with Biblical scriptures. You have made a hard choice friend. But I'm sure it will be a decision that you'll never regret. God Bless you and welcome to the faith.
God Bless,
Till all are one.

I agree with you, it is not a good idea to mix state and church. We have tried it in Norway
and there is now some debate about wether we should separate the two. My guess is that it will happen some day.
We are very far north, at almost 70 degrees North. Beautiful summers with midnight sun and 7 months of cold winter.

Thanks for the answer, espen.
Almost 70 north, huh? Wow, very cool!
I thought I was pretty far north at almost 65! Am even thinking of moving up above The Circle up to about 67!
God Bless :)

The "they didn't treat me well" excuse is not good! What if you were to join a cult because they treated you well?

The "they didn't treat me well" excuse is not good! What if you were to join a cult because they treated you well?
Well it's not really an excuse it's just one of the reasons. I think fellowshiping with other christians
is important. Of course it wouldn't be enough that people in a church are nice, it is a sum of several things.
There are several "cults" up here that demand that you cut contact with people outside the cult, I would never
dream of entering one of them. It is important to have a balanced faith without extremism in any direction.
But of course the way people treat you in a church and how good atmosphere there is between the
members of a church is important. In some of the churches I have tried, the atmosphere has been very cold.
I attended a church in Oslo for some months where people almost didn't talk to each others. They would come to
the service sit in silence and then leave as soon as the service was over. I think it is nice if people take care
of each others and have some fellowship outside the regular services.
And don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are other churches around where people treat each other nice.
It was not meant as criticism towards other churches, I just wanted to point out that the people in my local
baptist church happen to be very nice people :).

If thats the only reason than yes, Accept that the Body of Beleivers is to love each other and edify each other, if a church is a bunch of turds to new people they dont show the love of Christ. And I wouldnt want to be there. Its that simple.
