I am unchurched. I do not wan to be so, but I am. I accepted Christ while I was living out of state. Now that I am back I am finding it extremely difficult to find a church, I go to all these different churches, but none seem right. I do not want to be a church tester either. I realy want to belong to a body of local believers. This is realy disturbing me. I am fairly shy and not very outgoing. If anyone has gone through this and has any "helpful" advice, please feel free to message me. I would appreciate the help. BTW, I live in Hudson County, NJ, minutes away from NYC.

If you are looking for guidelines on how to find a good church, there are some here that I would recommend:

Hello m3ker,
I can only suggest that you first need to spend some serious time reading the scriptures, especially the New Testament, for yourself. And make reading the 4 gospels a priority. There are a lot of churches out there, and every single one that I have been to has their own slant of interpretation. I think the most important thing you can do is to decide what you yourself believe, and then visit those churches which are somewhat close to your views. What you want to avoid is the situation where you begin to question some of the main teachings of the church you are attending. This is usually when things get ugly. So it is best to know ahead of time what is important to you and avoid - at all cost - any church which does not hold to those things. For example, I will not attend any church which teaches any of the tenets of calvinism. I simply think they are all of Satan. But there are others who think the world of calvinism.
Realize that being Christian means being in subjection to Christ. Lots of churches teach that to be in subjection to Him means accepting their teachings. Please be careful to what you open yourself up to.
