I was trying to get an answer from God and thought of somethingt

Basically I asked God to not protect me, if what I was thinking of was true, and he did it. I did something like this several times and everytime except one God did them, or they happened.

Is this a good way to figure things out and/or get an answer from God?
My Pastor said God would protect me no matter what I asked God. It seemed like it worked, but I wanna find out if it was a good idea.

Is asking God to not protect you a good idea? NO!!! We are to pray on a regular basis that God would deliever us from evil. Also remember to always put on the full armor of God.

Matthew 6:9-13 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Ephesians 6:11-20 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

My wife just brought up relevent verses to this situation. Here they are.

Matthew 4:5-7 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: "He shall give His angels charge over you,' and, "In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone."' Jesus said to him, "It is written again, "You shall not tempt the LORD your God."'

I'm just watching out for a fellow brother in Christ. I find the best way to see God in action is to take steps in trusting God where it may be hard. For example pray God to bring others into your life so that you can share the gospel to them. Pray for wisdom and good discernment. These are areas where God will certainly bless us in if we sincerley ask.

We often ask for things not knowing the future or what is best or what is God's will. That is why the Holy Spirit intercedes with the Will of God for us (Rom 8:20-28). This is why God often answers No to our cognizant prayers. I'm not sure why one would ask for God not to protect them. Is this a general request, or are you asking Him to not protect you from something you think He is protecting you from that you want to experience?
