I'd like to have a print copy of some of the popular confessions and catchetisms. A quick reference guide would be great; a book that includes general discussion on the subject would be even better. Point me to anything on Amazon?

Here are a couple of pretty complete study guides on the Westminster Confession and Shorter Catechism:

Westminster Confession of Faith for Study Classes and

The Westminster Shorter Catechism for Study Classes

Both are by G.I. Williamson and published by P&R Publishing. I bought my copies through

That's a great link and I bookmarked it, but I'm definitely looking for something in print. :) Thanks for the suggestions!

If you're interested in a new Bible also, let me recommend the NIV Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible.

Included with the Scriptural text are: Heidelberg Catechism, Westminster Confession, Westminster Shorter Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort, Westminster Larger Catechism.

Overall, it's probably much more economical to buy everything combined than individually.

If you want more than just the Reformed view, you might look at Creeds of the Christian Church (http://www.amazon.com/Creeds-Churches-Christian-Doctrine-Present/dp/0804205264/sr=8-8/qid=1161140753/ref=sr_1_8/002-0190219-4804017?ie=UTF8&s=books). It has a bunch of them, with short intros. I find it very useful when studying catechisms in our Sunday School class, to be able to add to the discussion about the background, or about creeds that other denominiations use.

I recommend Arthur C. Cochrane's Reformed Confessions of the Sixteenth Century (http://www.amazon.com/Reformed-Confessions-Sixteenth-Century-Cochrane/dp/0664226949/sr=8-2/qid=1161470474/ref=sr_1_2/102-3639994-0144148?ie=UTF8&s=books). The title's self-explanatory. :P

here is a good site which recommends stuff online as well as linking to some books on the subject... in particular is a comparison of the creeds co-written by Joel Beeke and Sinclair Ferguson....

well... here is a blurb about the book.. it sounds to be just what you are looking for...

"Seven important confessional statements produced in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries have been harmonized in parallel columns, and represent three strands of Reformed churches: 1) Dutch-German with the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort; 2) Swiss with the Second Helvetic Confession; and 3) Scottish-English with the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Westminster Catechisms. Also provided are a historical introduction to the confessions and an extensive annotated bibliography of Reformed theological writings." http://www.heritagebooks.org/review.asp?reviewId=84

Hi everybody;

Could you tell me what do you know about the "concord of Wittenberg" between the Reformed theologians (Martin Bucer, etc;) and the lutheran theologians (Martin Luther, etc;) about the Lord's Supper?
I know that it happened during 1536, but I don't know if exist any document of this reconciliation nor what were exactly the term of this concord...

Thank you! :thumbsup:
