I bought this CD last week, on the recommendation of the clerk at Archangel Bookstore in San Francisco. She said it was her favorite:

Yes. I have no explanation for the barnyard background.^_^ Even with the livestock it is one of the prettiest pieces of music I have ever heard.

That one has more bass and is a different style. Is that the Valaam Brotherhood Choir?

The one from their "Taste the Fountain of Immortality" is in English and has very tight harmony on the upper end of the scale.

Yup. Love that huge bass sound. After hearing this song in greek so many times it is hard to hear it in english.

Hmmm, I've never heard of "Valaam Chant" as a distinct style. A description of their CD says it includes both old and new forms, so perhaps they have actually harmonized some things.

THose sounds may be added in on purpose in order to encourage people to "live not by MP3 alone" but to eventually purchase the entire CD so as to avoid the sounds and the terrible clapping....but Idk, maybe the windows were open at a live performance to sheep outside. It's possible in Greece.

I meant sung on CD. :) I have the words, and have even given my own translation to some folks - although translating αισίαις as "auspicious" or "favorable" (the lexical definitions) doesn't sound as good as the Greek word.
