The Armory Design team has been working on this idea for a while, and we're just about ready to start converting the current Library books to a new format.
We'll be starting with the Bibles. Here's an example of the old style and the new style, featuring the King James Version.

...Old Style.......New Style.

..Overhead ......Beside the Character
The table-stand will be part of the Bible, instead of a separate item like the overhead bookshelf.
It will take some time to convert all the Bibles, because we'll be fitting these in as the regular requests allow us time. Please be patient with us as we work through the conversion.
Special thanks to Q for working up the prototype of the new design.

i am of the opinion that a book in the hand is worth a thousand on a shelf or stand gathering dust...
would really like to see the revision done so that our characters would be able to hold the bibles and books as if they are actually 'reading' them...

http://www3.christianforums.com/images/items/bookinhand.gifFor those who want it,we already have a book that looks like a Bible in the sword hand.
It's in swords.
We've made our decision on this stand for the book collection.

The book on the stand looks grouse!:D Good job!
As for the book in the hand - the eyes of the character don't normally look in that direction so they still aren't really reading it. :P

I really do like this stand, but does this means the bibles we have already bought will convert to this format, or will we have to buy anew?

The bibles that are currently over the Character's head, at bookshelf height will be automatcally converted to the new format as we complete them. It won't happen all at once.

So are you changing all the books or just the Bibles?

I think we will eventually change most of the books, if not all.

I think that is a marvelous idea. What I've never understood, though, is why are all our characters left-handed?

How are the various books to be distinguished from each other? For the most part it would seem that they would all pretty much look alike when they are open....
I noticed some large letters on one page of the one you presented......
for the Hebrew/Messianic books - you'll need text - may I suggest:
שמע ישראל - hint, Hebrew runs right to left, so to highlight this youmay need to highlight "backwards" :)
In Hebrew that says "Shema Yisrael" - in English = "Hear O'Israel"
If this is too long then the recognized shortened form would be just שמע = Shema/Hear!
This is a universal phrase that would be found in *every* Jewish prayer or study or scripture book - thus once you have it formatted you can apply it to all the Hebrew/Jewish/Messianic volumes in the Library :)
In order of appearance:
Haggadah
Tanakh
JNT B'rit Hadashah
Chumash
Siddur (75 blessings - the Messianic version)
Artscroll Tanach
CJB Bible
JPS Tanakh
Siddur (103 blessings - the Artscroll version)
Scroll
The Masoretic Text

Thank you Henaynei. In some cases, we may design the book such that it's closed, which would allow us a bigger area for drawing/writing designs on the cover, instead of on a page. We're not going to do this in a hurry, in part so that we can research the best way to display each book -- especially books of scripture.

The King James Version Bible has been replaced with the new look.
If you have this Bible equipped, you will probably need to hit CTL-F5 to refresh the image.
* runs off to redesign more Bibles

This is a really neat idea ravenscape. It looks so much better than the 'books' hanging in the air. :D I may just get myself one now.

Yup, you're right! We raised the table a bit on the final design, but tried to still keep it out of the way of items that might be held in the sword-hand.

I like the idea, and am looking forward to getting one; thing is, which of the Messianic and/or Jewish books to get first? Decisions, decisions...
My kudos to the team for all the hard thought and work that has gone and willl go into this. ...it's no small task, that's for sure!

I don't know if this will help you prioritize your purchase or not...
To some extent, we'll redesign the Bibles and other forms of scripture based on how many are already in circulation. Items have only been bought a few times will be redesigned after items that appear to be more popular. We also will take cost into account. We'll probably do the highest cost items sooner rather than later, even though not many have been sold.

Thanks for the heads up and the reply.:) I figured you would do it as you posted.
I'm not in a hurry, and am willing to wait and see how things go. It's altogether lilely that I'll change my mind, probably more than once, before I make my first choice.
As you might notice, I'm a fairly conservative shopper and careful about spending.
