I've seen so many people say that the only true way we'll know what Scripture says is to read it in the language it was first written in. I figure why the heck not?
So, does anyone know any at home programs where I can learn Greek? And should it be ancient Greek or modern?
Hit me with some knowledge:thumbsup:

Souvlaki - small kebabs of meat and poultry grilled or broiled on skewers. ^_^
I use E-Sword. It has Strong's Greek and Hebrew Dictionaries. It's free.

Brother, I'm going to say that the only true way to know what the Holy Scriptures say is to have the Holy Spirit dwelling within you. Then it doesn't matter what language the Bible's in. He'll make you understand His Truth.
But go ahead and learn Greek. I'm not discouraging you from learning something new!

Hey Bud,
I reccomend checking out Bill Mounce's work, Basics of Biblical Greek. I have it and use it, and though I am in Seminary with a little more elbow grease you can teach yourself Greek like the theologians of old. Get the flashcards that go with it. They are numbered by chapter and are excellent. The book includes a CD with numerous helps and even has recorded lessons from his own classes that he teaches at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; very helpful indeed!
Here is his website. It even has free stuff on it: http://www.teknia.com/index.php?page=bbgtextbook
You should learn koine Greek (which is common greek, or biblical greek) and The first thing you need to do is learn the alphabet, duh!
Also be willing to check this out: http://www.teknia.com/index.php?page=detail&pnum=10 Listen and view the sample provided and see if this two semester audio (partially graphic course) is for you. At 89$ your getting two semesters of Seminary level greek.

Not sure but visit your local Life Way Bible Book Store
Also Look up Moody Bible Institute, Liberty University.
I am sure there is a home study course.
If there is a conservative Bible College near you just go there.
It has been over 25 years since I studied Greek. It does not solve all the problems. It is fun.
To be real good at it you will need to take about 6 solid years in it. I took two years but to really be good it will take at best 6 solid years of College, Post grad studies and further.

Dangit, I had this big post in response, but I deleted it accidentally. Bleh. I'll write it later, but thanks for the info all.
Oh, two things first hehe.
I have no problem discerning the Bible. I've had the Holy Spirit since I was 13. Learning Greek and the original texts is for my own growth as I'm trying to weed out extra-Biblical teachings that have been drilled into my head since, well birth.
And where I live, there's no such thing as a good Bible college. There's barely good churches here.:P

SIH, I think this is an awesome impulse you have to learn the language that some of the Scripture was written in. I found e-sword to be helpful as well as my Stongs concordance.
Interestingly I was on a kick to learn Greek, much like yourself, a few years ago, but dropped it in favor of learning Hebrew.
Anyway........I wish you well on your journey.....

Ooh, I'd definitely like to learn Hebrew too, but I heard it's a difficult language to pick up. Who knows, maybe after I study Greek for a while I will try this route.
Thanks.

Thanks.Wait till you get to the verb endings in Greek. Talk about dificult, at least for me it was. I still havn't gotten them. I cheat now and use an Analytical Greek New Testament.
