I thought it would be interesting to see how various churches protocols work regarding the opening and closing of the Royal Doors. I put what I think are the most likely scenarios and one to say none of the above. Please post additional details to the poll.
I'm thinking specifically of the liturgy, and not other services.

I don't want to hyjack this thread, but if someone can give me a quick answer please, do. If you can't give a quick answer or if it starts to take over the thread, I'll start a new one.
Are the royal doors symbolic of the veil dividing the holy place and the Holy of Holies in the Temple of the Old Convenant?

#2, and I want our curtain back :)
We used to have one with our portable iconostasis but have not put up a proper one now that we have a permanent temple/iconostasis.

They're opened, they're closed, they're censed. they get an overgrown candle put in front of 'em for about 5 minutes, before it's moved off to the side... I give up!!!

We have a curtain but I thought I would mention a solution we came up with for easily changing the colors of the curtains. We bought a cafe rod that easily lifts up and cafe curtain rings to easily slide across. It is so much better than the lenghth of copper tubing we had that was "wired" in place with bent coat hangers and had to be unbent to change the curtains each time.

In answer to your question...
We have the doors open and closed at different specific times. I think they are more closed than open. We are OCA and have a strong history of Russian members so that might be part of the reason.

I believe this is correct. The Royal Doors can also be seen to represent the gates of paradise.

Same with our parish, also OCA, also a strong Russian presence. The Doors are closed more than open, with the curtain also drawn at times.

Part of that I think is Archbishop Dmitri as well, who you are blessed to have as a hierarch.

Our's is a thoroughly modern parish. Our Royal doors, and curtain, are all automated. A simple press of a switch sets the curtain, and or, doors to opening or closing. In addition we have installed a totally high tech censing system, similar to the watering system at your local grocery's produce section. Press a button and out comes the incense.
Candles are fully automated as well. They are electric, of course, but this cuts down on the chance of fire.
A flat panel display sits under each major icon. To add a candle simply touch the screen.
Our confessional has a laptop computer with various options available. It's all completely automated, no more need to confess to a live priest. And this way you can do confession at your leisure.
Lastly, we receive the antidoran through a machine similar to a snack machine. This keeps the kids from picking through a bowl for the largest piece.
