Rite 1, Rite 2, or modified?

Well, the 1979 Baptism service is in a tongue not understanded of the people.
However, the 1979 BCP does allow for the text to be rendered in traditional language, so my parish uses the ASB, which is the 1979 entirely Rite 1.
Plus there is no cookie worship in the 1979.

What is wrong with the Baptism. I thought it was wonderful.

Rite II! Love it! Especially Eucharistic prayer C (Star Wars). I think the Baptism is wonderful too.

God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of
glory and praise.
Glory to you for ever and ever.
At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of
interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses,
and this fragile earth, our island home.
By your will they were created and have their being.
From the primal elements you brought forth the human race,
and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us
the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed
your trust; and we turned against one another.
Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight
Set your phasers to stun.

You use the ASB Baptismal? Cool. I'm firmly in the ASB camp of the CofE, not a hugely committed CW fan. I prefer Rite II to Rite I. Traditional language drives me nuts and I know a lot of people who just 'don't get it'.

I liked ASB too, but I feel that the CW baptism is a bit more meaningful for some reason.

Not the ASB you are thinking of.
We use Anglican Service Book - traditional language.
You are probably thinking of Alternate Service Book - contemporary language

I'm quite fond of the 1928 myself.
Although I am enjoying my new copy (a gift from dad) of the 79

So do I. Shakespeare is wonderful english. But it's totally out of place in a twenty-first century congregation with people in it who flunked high-school english. I know one man locally who says he never attends BCP services (that's the historic '62 BCP) because he just doesn't get it. Nor does he attend Shakespeare because again, he doesn't get a word of it.

The new (2005) REC is very very similar to the 1662. I think I like it most followed by the PECUSA 1928.

Then shouldn't it be, "My heart be set a flutter in the presence of traditional oratories"? ;)
As a non-Anglican, all I can say is 1979 can't be that bad of a year. (Twas the year I was born! ^_^ )

I prefer Rite II, prayer D--of course that's too be expected. I keep looking around for the incense clouds, women dressed in black, and puzzling at the pews when the local church uses that prayer. I also suddenly feel like busting out into a resounding round of "Grace shining from your lips" after it was all said and done, but then again that wouldn't be appropriate given that it comes from St. Basil's liturgy.

I agree, that is pretty cool.
Oh, and Cola -- nice axe, btw. :)
On-topic now...I have very faint memories of the '28 BCP, but I've been raised on the '79 and it seems so warm and comfy to me, like a nice old winter sweater. I, too, am partial to the Star Wars Rite II Eucharistic Prayer. :) The parish I went to in high school always did Rite I for Advent and Lent, so I got pretty familiar with that language, too.
We did the 1549 eucharist in college once at our campus ministry, or as authentically as we could given we had a woman chaplain. :) That was fun, but I honestly don't remember much of the language. Otherwise, these days I'm getting to know the ELCA Book of Worship and its contemporary supplements, along with the Enriching Our Worship (TEC), through our campus ministry. I think we're ultimately going to try to create our own liturgy, a blend of Lutheran and Anglican language that should be pretty cool. Hopefully we'll pull that together this year -- we've got some pretty sharp young liturgists in our group who've been working on it.
