There are a couple of threads going that touch on dietary issues.

Any thoughts on Natural Hygiene?

I followed some tenets of it many many years ago to get myself healthier and forgot all about it until today.

Sounds a lot like the beliefs and practices of the new-essenes. They believe that one becomes righteous by taking enemas, purges and fasting. Salvation is no only by faith, but also by practicing the "Essene Gospel of Peace" in which "Jesus" preaches that since it is not what goes into man that defiles him, but what comes out, that taking an enema to get that stuff out purifies the body and soul.

And, it's best to join the religion young, because when you join, you must take one enema for every year you are old. So menno, that's 41 enemas for you! :D

Bypassing any "spirituality" of it what about health aspects?

I'm very serious about the purges and enemas in the neo-essene religion...but that's only part of what you are talking about.

It wouldn't hurt any of us to eat better and get more exercise and lose some weight, not to mention losing some stress.

But I know a woman (I work with her) who started a naturopathy regimin 1 year ago, and she's heavier now than she was then, and she has more "little ailments" now than she did before she started. She has had a major infection in a tooth, colds and the flu repeatedly (compared to me, who is semi-vegetarian and another woman we work with who eats whatever she wants), much more often than the others I work with. So I don't think its princple theory is correct.

But eating right and getting more exercise and less stress, I think everyone would agree that's a good thing!
