I think perhaps you need to be more specific. What is really big right now in the WELS about this? Maybe I've been under a rock somewhere, but I haven't heard a thing about it.

I don't know what you're referring to either...does it have to do with men and women having a role in the worship service, perhaps? If so, then it's another church growthy, feel good about myself type of thing. If not, then I just don't have a clue :)

It was more of a should they have the right to be on boards, should they be able to bote, etc., etc,,
Really, Seajoy?? It was tearing my church apart. We lost members over it. It was really big in the synod office thing. (Maybe it's more prominant in Wisconsin........) do you live here?? (In Wi.??)??

Yes, I live in WI. It's never been an issue in any WELS church I've ever belonged to.
Guess I missed the news on your church.

Up untill about 10 years ago in our congregation they didn't alow women to vote in the voters meeting even though they were present. It divided our church to the present day so that many church leaders stepped down and never ran for offices again. To me these are traditional things and are adiaphora. They have nothing to do with women having spirtual dominance over men. There is no reason that women shouldn't vote. Most voting matters only pertain to church functioning and not about theoligical matters.
When it comes to Spiritual matters the man is subject to God's ordinances. A lot of men have forsaken their role as spiritual leaders and have, by default and neglect, lost that position. Many women have taken on that role because of men's ineptitude. It's not right but that's what has happened.

You are SOOOO correct!!!!!! I would like to see the men realize how much the Lord's Church really needs them and return to what is proper; not because they must but because it's what is best. But how do we encourage men?

If there was ever one thing that was right about the PROMISE KEEPERS events it was that men need to be leaders in the church again. But that was about the only thing that was really right about them.

After potlucks, the women should clean up the food and the men should fold the tables and stack the chairs.
This seems fundamental in Christianity.

Ok, my personal opinion, now that I know what the OP is asking is that I don't feel comfortable having women on boards or voting. Men should step up...but how do we encourage them without shoving law down their throats?

It's a long drawn out process neglected by many pastors and that is "equipping the saints" ie classes, instructions bible studies. Once they know from the bible what their roles and responsibilities are then hopefully they will step forward and take the reins.
They can't make good judegemental calls untill the have the Word of the Lord as a basis of knowledge anyway.

We should have something like that in LCMS to help reafirm our positions again. If the pastors refuse to do it then the laity should start a movement. It should be synod wide and not just local congregations.
