I am having a hard time with Lust. How do you guys deal with this? In my teen years I was addicted to porn. Through the power of Almighty God I don't have a problem with porn anymore, now I have a big problem with looking at women. I have my days where I wage a good defense against this sin, others I foul it up bad.
any advice

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling and it's causing you great frustration. Even Paul stated in scriptures that he struggled with sin as well. We all do.
You might never be able to escape lust as much as you'd like but you can try a few things to help lessen it. Redirection is a technique that parents use for their children but it can work for adults as well. When you feel the urge, redirect yourself to something. The thing you choose to redirect yourself to will have to be something you've chosen that you know will be effective, whether it's picking up a phone and calling your mom or closing your eyes immediately and saying a prayer. This won't work all the time but thankfully all our sins have been covered by the blood of Christ.

Admit defeat! No I am not saying that you should quit fighting it, but realize that you can not do this alone! You are human male and God created you with all the desires that lie within. On your own you can not win this battle so admit that you are defeated and pray for strength from Christ. He has promised that in our weaknesses he is made strong. It is a daily drowning of the old Adam. Each morning wake up and say this prayer:
I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that you keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil Foe may have no power over me. Amen.
you can't do it alone so allow Christ to help you. I know you say that with God's help you were able to get away from pornograhy. I can relate to that as I had problem with it when I was a teenager and into my 20s. I thought I too had it licked and that God had helped me, but it came back and almost ruined my marriage. I was unable to stop it on my own and I realized how much I needed Christ in my life. It is not just the Father, but recognizing daily that Christ died on the cross for my sins. Like me you need to take this weakness to him every day.
God Bless.

This is one of the many sins I struggle with every day of my life. Some days, I do relatively well, by the Grace of God, and other days, I find myself so deep in it, that I wonder how I ever thought I was doing better. At times like that, knowing "...that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." is all that will keep me going on.
Advice? Spalatin has you covered pretty well on that. I would also suggest that you find yourself a good Pastor you can confess to, or at least a partner who will commit to keeping you accountable. Remeber also, blessed Saint Paul didn't cal himself a little bit of a sinner, no, he called himself the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). He goes on to say, "I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!"(Romans 7:21-25)

Lust is but one deadly sin that we must observe alongside other sins that give it a sense of sustainability or are directly an influence towards Lust.
Christ teaches us that when we physically sin or just think it, it is the same.
We nourish our Lust by accepting what we see. When we refuse Lust (just as with Gluttony for example) we are then feeding the soul. Just as when we 'fast' we are rejecting our physical hunger to feed our spiritual hunger.
Here is the problem most young people face. We live in a fallen world surrounded by advertising and movies/shows that promote our LUST (not to mention Gluttony as another example). Even the way people dress or talk has a bearing on our weakness of the flesh.
We may try to resist what influences us, but if we keep exposing ourselves to these things we will fail unless we turn to Jesus Christ and His teachings.
Why I mention this is not in passing or a cliche phrase, but instead you truly have to occupy yourself with reading the Holy Bible and surrounding yourself and your time with positive things that prevent you from exposing yourself to the continual corruption of our fallen world.
I don't mean to say you must shelter yourself from the world we all live in, but first equip yourself with what you must do to walk through the valley of darkness (the fallen world) and realize that Jesus Christ is there for us.
In time you will find that you will be able to resist those things that tempt your needs of the flesh (Lust).
To better understand all this I highly recommend you go and see a Pastor about this situation for further instruction (that is if you are serious about combating Lust).
May the Lord Bless and Keep you.

I can't now remember what book I read this distinction in but lust as a sin is carefully defined. It is not lust to be naturally attracted to another person as it does not turn into lust until you actively seek out other women to "ogle".
IOW, if you actively go to places with the intent of viewing women and thinking inappropriate thoughts about them, undress them with your eyes etc, then that is lusting and, as was said above, you cannot free yourself from sin. You can give it up to God and ask for forgiveness and the Holy Spirit will aid and keep you from temptation...
If you just find passing women attractive but do not follow them with youre eyes, undress them with your eyes, or use them for sexual fantasy then that's not lust.
That's being human...

Addiction to porn has side-effects.
Often these side-effects are enflamed when one again sees a porn after some time. The sin needs to be mortified.
You are saying that on some days you foul up bad in a context of lusting after women.
PM me, since I would like to understand what you mean by saying "fouling up".
There are methodologies on how not to be "filled up" by lust.
I am not saying I know them all or very well, but I do not know of anyone who knows it very well. But I think that I might be able to help.
Thanks,
Ed
