My stepfather is having surgery right now (it started 15 minutes ago and will last three hours). It is a leg artery by-pass. He is diabetic and has hardly any circulation in his lower leg, so they are hoping this will help. If it doesn't work, he may have to have his lower leg amputated. The doctor says that the other leg will probably eventually follow suit.

Please pray for my stepfather (Jerry) and my mom (June), and the surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses at this time.

Thank you so much.

Karen

Thanks guys. I'm waiting for any news - not sure if I'll find anything out until tomorrow due to the time difference.

Thank you so much for the prayers everyone. Here is the update I received by email this morning from my mom:The surgery took from about 9:30-3:30 so it was quite long; the Dr. had to use part vein from the arm and part Gortex synthetic but he got a good bypass of the thigh blockage plus cleaned out a lot of blockage in the groin artery. By the end of surgery, he was getting a better pulse in the foot though still not normal; he is hoping the small vessels at the lower calf will expand now with the new blood supply from the unclog and the bypass so that the "outflow" at the lower calf will become even more robust, leading to good circulation at the lower leg and into the foot. The Reverend Winnie Gaines came before the surgery this morning to bless him with oil and say prayers with us; she also came back at 6:00- tonighth to say a prayer with him; she was chaplain at the hospital where Pa is, for ten years (ten years ago).So it looks like the OP went well. My mom said she felt blessed that there were so many people praying (she didn't know that you all were praying, too!). I really appreciate you guys all praying. Thanks again!
