Hi. I was just wondering if there was anyone else who had some thoughts on planning a Sunday School kickoff. This is my first year coordinating special events for our Sunday School.

We have a small congregation with limited resources but a big heart with a time period of one hour. I would be pleased to hear any ideas that you have. We will be using the Augsburg Fortress program.

How about a good old fashioned Potluck or Ice Cream Social where the kids can meet their teacher and maybe even play some games. We used to always have some kind of "Rally Day" event like that when I was a kid.

Hi, nuthousemom!

Guess what I do! Yep, I'm the volunteer head of education and youth ministry . . and guess what - we're planning for RALLY DAY!

Ours is the last Sunday in August. We're doing our own thing about the Armor of God starting on that Sunday and the five Sundays afterwards. Then we're using Akaloo. . is that what you mean by "The Augsburg Fortress" program?

There are at least four different "Augsburg Fortress" programs - Witness, Firelight, Life Together, Akaloo. . .

I'll be glad to tell you more (as much more is currently planned).

Hi. I just came back from our first Sunday School leadership meeting. Things were really dsorganized so we are trying to get things in order. It went well.

Anyway, we are using Life Together starting Sunday the 17th. Our Rally day is the 10th. Some of the goals for me to accomplish are start as the whole group with some prayer and possibly songs/something else... something to get the kids excited about this years Sunday school program.(max kids will be 30 mostly 2nd grade and under)
Then split into age group levels for some more fun(probably age appropriate games) and getting to know you time with the individual teachers for that age group.

I want it to be fun but some things we can't do is have food:sick: related to kids with special diets or spend much money(we have none hehehe).

Any ideas would be helpful as in the past there wasn't much planned so I don't have alot to pull from.

Thanks, Carolyn

With all due respect to diet challenges, you could have a potluck where the dishes that are brought are made with respect to these allergies. (peanuts and the like) You might have a few people put on a skit that deals with the theme of the Sunday school year.

BTW... I have never heard of an allergy to Jello before.

Yeah, I know about the jello;) . The last leadership team always did crazy stuff with food(had ice cream socials at 10:00am/gave out too much chocolate at Easter...) and my pastor got ticked off about it because she is really careful about what she feeds her daughter.

However, A luncheon potluck would be nice and "Life Together" the program we use emphasizes a whole family experience. It would be a nice beginning to the year after so many people are away over the summer.
Thanks for your help!

September 10th, as that is a Sunday?

Hmm. . .since we're doing the armor of God, that is our Sunday for making "sheilds of faith." I'm trying to think of what you may want to do, though. www.daniellesplace.com has been a huge help to me this year. You may want to check there.

It's late for me to really look and think right now :) It's time that I usually relax. I'm not all that "with it" for this at this VERY moment.

There is even Sugar Free Jello for those kids who have already been supplied their daily quarter.
