A Clarion Call to Prayer
A significant tide has turned in the Israel-Lebanon conflict with the Israeli bombing of the Lebanese town of Qana Sunday. It was a Hezbollah stronghold and the Israelis had dropped leaflets telling civilians to flee but most did not.
Instead they went to basements that are poor air raid shelters and almost 70 were killed. Now the Lebanese people are demonstrating in Beirut in favor of Hezbollah, the Iranian and Syrian surrogates that are setting their nation back thirty years.
Condoleeza Rice cancelled her planned trip to Lebanon carrying plans for a cease-fire which would only have allowed Hezbollah to re-group and re-arm. Sunday's commentators all had an air of despair in the voices.
Mideast journalist David Dolan wrote today, July 30, "The prospect that a full-scale Muslim-Israeli Mideast conflict will soon break out seemed to increase dramatically today. The attack (on Qana) was labeled a 'deliberate massacre of our innocent martyrs' by Lebanese Prime Minister Seniora, who furiously called for his regional Muslim brethren to stand united in the face of the Israeli war criminals--an apparent call for military intervention."
Dolan continues, "Al Jazeera and other Arab media outlets have been carrying similar calls for Muslim military intervention today, possibly giving the Syrian-Iranian axis the excuse it seems to be seeking to jump directly into the deepening conflict.
It seems to many of us here in Israel that this week could prove pivotal in determining whether or not we are heading toward a full-scale regional war, which could easily result in hundreds of thousands of casualties....."
More moderate Arab nations were opposed to Hezbollah's actions at the start of the war, but now most all are on board behind them. We are fast-approaching the date of Tisha b'Av on the Jewish calendar, which falls this year on August 3.
It always falls in late July or early August. It is a date of ironic Jewish tragedies over thousands of years. Are the dates coincidental? Here are just some examples of what happened on Tisha b'Av throughout history:
The first Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and the second Temple was demolished on the same date by the Romans in 70 A.D.
The Jews were expelled from Spain on that date in 1491.
The Russian pogroms, World War I and World War II all occurred on that day. (Remember, the date varies from year to year.)
The Jews were exiled from England on that date in 1290.
Moses broke the tablets at Mount Sinai following the sin of the golden calf on that date.
It would seem to stretch credulity to suggest that these incidents (and others not listed) fell on Tisha b'Av by coincidence. The ongoing escalation in Israel/Lebanon brings to mind Golda Meier's statement that the animosity will end only when, "....the Arabs love their children more than they hate ours." Children and other innocent civilians in Lebanon are being used, once again, as human shields as Islam does not love life; it celebrates death.
Yet what we are seeing is further fulfillment of Zechariah 12 - 14 where all nations turn on Israel (and all are injured), for many in the world are now beginning to hate Israel more than Hezbollah, which is a sister organization to al-Qaida. Israel is doing some of the Western world's dirty work in the war against Islamo-fascism and at the same time, being condemned for it.
This is a call to prayer on behalf of those who want to stand by Israel, freedom, and truth, and who serve the God of Israel. August 3 is just around the corner....Tisha b'Av.
