Who here is a musician?

You don't have to perform, just play.

I play guitar primarily, I have dabbled with Trumpet and violin in the past, but I am best at guitar.

I would also like to pick up bass.

I play guitar. I've played for many years. Last year I was in a worship band for our alternative worship services (monthly). It was so wonderful, especially the practice sessions.

Sounds like fun. I would like to play with people, but unfortunately, I have stage fright.

I am horrified that I would choke, especiall if a bandmate did some stupid stage move that would be embarrasing.

Ha! Our band didn't do any stage moves! We tried hard not to be the focus, and we set ourselves up well off to the side. My friend (who played bass) was so full of stage fright, he would actually play behind one of the big stone pillars in the church. ^_^

I had a little bit of fear to begin with, but once you've done it, it becomes easier. I guess in a way that is why the practices were so special, because the fear was absent. Plus we had such a great comeraderie (sp?) and had such fun and sometimes deep discussions during that time. I really miss it.

Some of the most effective guitar work is simple.

Flute, piccolo, French horn, some piano, some percussion, and I sing.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a music geek.

I did my bachelor degree in music. Officially I play oboe, but I've done some study in indian classical music so I also play a bit of sitar and tabla (very badly, mind you)

Sweet.

Then I'll behave and not report any of the (rather bad) oboe jokes I heard over the years of band.

Besides, one of my best friends from high school was an absolute demon. She was really, really, really good.

I'm a pretty good classical pianist. I'm the deputy organist at St. H's, and serve as they keyboardist/backing vocalist for the local youth worship band. I'm training as a classical singer too, and play guitar and bass guitar sufficiently well enough to just pick 'em up and play without practicing in almost any of the worship teams that I've been part of. :)

Don't worry, I've probably heard them!
How do you get two oboes to play in tune?

Shoot one.

I can play the fool and I'm on the fiddle, does that count?

Seriously, I played E flat bass in the Army band, and did a spell on the drums. I can play Euphonium if needed and just about manage the baritone, but after that I don't have small enough lips for stuff like cornet, tenor horn etc.

Used to play a very bad bass guitar in a vey bad school group I was in, but that was a long long time ago.

Cola's mom plays just about anything that you blow into. It really is amazing. She was one of the most excellen flutist I ever knew (knew alot) when she still played regularly. I am trying to get her to learn the flute intro for Stairway to play with Cola.

The guitar was OK. (Hondo II as I recall).

The bass player was awful, but then so were the rest of the group.:D

That's awesome! I'm a classically-trained flutist, and I also sing and play guitar. I fake piano and mandolin. And my husband bought me a sax for my birthday that I'm trying to learn how to play.

I'm in a group that plays Sufi-inspired Christian devotional music. Composed by an Anglican tertiary Franciscan composition professor. We have a Klezmer clarinetist and I sing, play sruti and play guitar. The composer plays tabla, frame drum and dumbek. We're an odd kinda group. :D

i play guitar. in the old days, i played blues and R & B. (before R & B mutated into hip hop)

35 years in the construction trades have done my hands no good, and now my playing is way less than ready for the public.

Recently I have been feeling frustrated in my guitar playin. Like I can't progress.

I have not had a lot ot time recently to practice. But when I do I just get frustrated to the point that I quit.

I am an okay guitar player. I just can't get any better.

Anyone else hit that wall?

my suggestion is play between 10-15 minutes a day...doesn't matter what...just play...trust me...just that litle bit of time helps...a lot...

Cola -- I would also get together with other people who play and just have fun. Try new songs with them, learn a new chord or two as you go, and you'll gradually expand your skills.

Ouch.

What my flut teacher suggested was to take a day off (no more), and if that didn't work, then just playing or even listening to the piece would probably help.

I've never really hit a wall in any of my playing. My piano playing has plateaued at about the level that with practice I can play anything that's written with enough practice, and my guitar playing when I'm in practice I've never found something acoustic/worship that I can't play. Still searching. ;)
