Some interesting notes I found after a very brief search:
His brother is the pastor of a Church of God in Christ.
He was awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was the dean of Washington Cathedral and presided over several services of national importance.
And there's more . . . here (http://www.ohiodominican.edu/about/news/2005/CommencementSpeaker.asp).
I would like to hear any projections if you know anything.
Here's the man.

I LOVE this man. I knew him briefly at my old parish in Lancaster, PA shortly before he was Dean at the National Cathedral.
When I went to that parish's 250th birthday eucharist, he preached and spoke about how he came to discover this parish (St. John's). It seemed he just wandered into the place one Christmas Eve night and was so struck by the welcome and the incense (it's a kinda high-church place with somewhat liberal social tendencies) that he eventually became an Episcopalian as a result. He's a very warm man, and I am thrilled he was elected bishop. I didn't even know he was in the running! I need to keep in better touch with things back there.

I miss that kinda place.:( Those churches seem to be more prevalent in cities than in suburbia...not to infer anything negative about the great people/priest in my current parish!...i just miss the "smells and bells" and a wider variety of people/backgrounds.

I have a theory that High Church is making a comeback.

Actually, St. John's is not in a big city, although it is in the "city" part of Lancaster (not the first image that comes to mind when one thinks of Lancaster, PA): http://www.stjohns-lancaster.org/ It has a good mix of young, young adult, middle-aged, and older people. Very vibrant and has always had a tradition of reaching out to the community in active ministry.
This is probably my most cherished spiritual "home" -- and it has been such a place for many people I know. (Including Nathan Baxter!) I, too, have had difficulty finding such a place where I live now.
