It seems that in the past 60 years the west has gone the way of sodom and gomorrah. Can the west recovery? Is it worth saving?

My question back at you would be,.....are things better in the east? Which east? How far east?

Please elaborate....I know that the secularization of culture is rampant....but is it only west? Or, is what takes place in the far east with atheistic communism better? Islamic fundamentalism?

Forgive me, just trying to get a handle on the question.

It is no better in other places. But I am just wondering what hope there is for the west. ie ex Christian civilization.

OK....I believe that there is more hope in the west than in most places, but forgive me for the arrogance....it just seems a bloody mess elsewhere (not that it is not here too!).

Thats ok, nothing wrong with clarifying. I think there is more hope in america than europe. Please vote everyone, I want to see your opinions.

I think our society has a deep spiritual sickness, not sure it is any better in Europe. It's all about me, it's ingrained in the way of life in the US, and the 'christian' way over here does nothing to thwart it or encourage repentence form it.

Is there an I doubt it option

agreed.

I think it goes in cycles as well. Right now in America we have what appears to be a conservative government. When we get a liberal government in, I think society may revert back somewhat to more conservative values....by conservative I mean Christian type values - not so much political.
Right now the churches are under attack by the spirit of this world - the protestant and a bit of RC - I think God is cleansing His people though....

but what do I know, I live in a cave.... :)

Yeah... that's what we need. We need a bunch of confused teenagres out there confusing people and giving them a totally skewed and broken view of the gospel with the threat of a violent punishment if they fail to do so.

That will fix the west.

It seems as though western values are promulgated worldwide moreso than eastern values. It's true we have some trendy Buddists and alternative "eastern" treatments showing up in American culture, but it seems that our TV shows and movies, as one conduit of our culture, can be seen anywhere in the world. The U.S. doesn't have an exclusive patent on materialism, but it seems we've perfected it. This materialism is diametrically opposed to the intructions of Christ regarding how we should relate to our stuff. We should be the culture of give, but instead we are the culture of "gimmee."

I answered I don't know if there is any hope for us. Sometimes I feel encouraged by the spread of authentic Orthodox Christianity in the U.S., but then when you consider that there may be as many as 5 million of us, yet there are 6.9 million Americans in prison, on parole, or probation, then you see the balance is still weighted heavily against God's people.

I would say yes, but only if the Christians radicalised!

Otherwise no...

The government in the US is hardly conservative.

There is no "it will take a work of Divine Intervention" choice.

I agree, Big Goverment conservative is a oxymoron. If you want a true conservative party go 3rd party.

No, I don't think there will be any recovery. The decline of western culture and nations is a sign of the approaching end of days.

People have been saying that since christ. Then there would be a sure of faithfulness then when it starts going down its the end of times again. The end of times might be in the 21st century but im not quit trying because it might.

That's my opinion, I never said I had proof of it or even that it was certain in my mind. I'm aware people have been waiting for the end for quite awhile now. However, unlike in times past we're looking at the total collapse of the west due to the fact there won't be any westerns left. In the coming decades Europe will become a Muslim mess and materialism has grown ever more vicious in North America.

I think people are too pessimistic, all things are possible with God as history clearly testifies. Our societies are not as corrupted as Roman society once was and that was not beyond transformation. Modern man is still created in the image of God, by definition modern man is worth saving.

The west will be finished when the Pope is finished, and it is just a matter of time.

All things are possible with God, very true, but as scripture teaches and the Church confirms, The Spirit has revealed to us that in the latter days apostasy will occur 1 TIM 4.1
Throw in the fact that many Church Fathers saw the saying, 'The first will be last and the last will be first" as the first to recieve the gospel will be the last to accept it and the last to accept it will be the first to recieve it. So the west has a problem.

I think one of the options for the poll should be "I don't think things are actually that bad."

I think there are several points in human history that were way more dismal than things are now.
