Prophesy: it is powerful, real, and should be used....albeit carefully
I have recently had allot of people confront me about my preaching Biblical prophesy with the idea that they needed to rebuke me. These people have often drawn the conclusion that because some people have given false prophesies, or wrongly assessed Biblical prophesies; that because of the them- people who declare prophesies accurately have been discredited also. This couldn't be further from the truth. God does want us to be careful in the area of prophesy, testing if it is true, but never to forsake it.
The story of 400 False prophets; and 1 real
In 1 Kings 22 we find an interesting event. King Ahab, who was a very evil king (1 Kings 16:30), was about to enter into battle at Ramoth Gilead. He sent out to inquire of the prophets to see if war was a good idea; weather he would win or not. Now he asked 400 prophets and they all "encouraged the king" to go, saying he would win a mighty victory. Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah, wasn't so sure though and asked King Ahab if there was any more prophets....
King Ahab conceded, "there is one man...but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me". So, the king sent and had Micaiah the prophet brought to them. Micaiah, sure enough, did not declare what the other 400 prophets declared, but instead declared doom for the king if he went. Micaiah said that the king would die in battle if he went, and if he didn't that the Lord had never spoken through him. And, sure enough, exactly what the prophet Micaiah prophesied came to pass; the king was shot with an arrow and killed in battle.
Just because the 400 prophets were wrong, doesn't mean that Micaiah was wrong or should be regarded as wrong.
Be Careful To Not "Scoff" When Talking About The Lord's Return
“Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming?”” ~2 Peter 3:3-4
Peter made an interesting statement in the Spirit, he declared that in our day people will scoff at the coming of Jesus…. But, he didn’t stop there, he told us why these people are so quick to scoff: because they are “walking according to their own lusts”. Let me just say as an obvious word of wisdom: do not be one of these scoffers. Examine prophesy, find good prophesy experts and test all things, but do not scoff. If you are unsure, then follow the admonition of the Apostle James and be “slow to speak”, but please don’t scoff; it’s not good for anyone. Remember that even if 400 prophets are wrong, there is a Micaiah out there that has a Word from the Lord on the subject. In fact, I would suggest that there is often many Micaiah’s, so be careful not to disregard prophetic words based on the shortcomings of those who are presumptuous.
Do Not Despise Prophesies, Test them
“Do not despise prophesies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
This command goes for a prophesy straight from the mouth of someone prophesying in the Word of the Lord, or for a person who is teaching on Biblical prophesy. Do not despise it. Do not automatically reject it. But instead test it. If the prophesy proves to be from God, you will be encouraged, and you can use the prophesy as an aid to convince unbelievers (1 Corinthians 14:4, 24). After all, no one knows the future except God Himself and those who He has revealed it to (Isaiah 46:9,10). If it is a fake prophesy, and does not line up with the Word of God; then immediately disregard it as trash.
Prophesy Did Not Pass Away:
July 7th 2006 I was awake at 4:05 seeking God. As I prayed I heard a Word from God given to me, which I documented immediately: it was that Israel was going to be attacked from somewhere unexpected. Now, around a week later, Hezbollah, operating in Lebanon, took 2 Israeli soldiers hostage and injured other’s. They then started to released a masquerade of missile’s into Israel’s land. This was what was spoken “from and unexpected place”. Lebanon is easily one of Israel’s more diplomatic neighbor’s, and any attack would have been much more likely coming from Syria or from an Iranian missile being launched. In fact, this conflict has become the biggest between the state of Israel and Lebanon since 1982. You do the math, was that expected? See, prophesy is a beautiful thing from God when we are careful with it!!!
If you have been guilty of hating prophesies, or scoffing about Jesus coming; please repent today. You cannot afford to scoff about something so sacred as God’s Holy Spirit moving, and neither can any of us afford to miss out on something so powerful that God has given to His people as encouragement. Pray this prayer:
“Lord God, I recognize that Your Word is clear. I realize that I have been ignorant about prophesy, and I repent for any appearance of scoffing I have been guilty of. I need You God, and everything to do with You, in my life. I will from this day forward test prophesies and receive them if they are according to Your Word Lord God. Lord Jesus move in the midst of Your people, and come quickly. Amen.”
Let God fascinate you with His beautiful Word!!! Jesus reigns! I love you all.
