Well, they came with me today! I have been to several DLs by myself over the summer, but the family finally agreed to come with me (if you remember, back in May it was my wife who said, "I will go, sometime....but I ain't kissing no pictures and I ain't kissing no preachers hand"). Well, she was not nearly as freaked out as she thought she would be. Her comments afterward was, that was so foreign to what I am accustomed to that it will take me a while to process it. She also said the incense was making her eyes burn.
The soon to be 18yo daughter was fairly indifferent and only complained about her aching back and feet.
The 14yo daughter loved it! She had a good time following along with the DL in the book and would get frusterated when she would loose her place. As this is an ACRO, we chant in prostopinije, the Carpatho-Rusyn plain chant, and she really enjoyed that except she said it was as bit dark in places (and she is right about that).
Afterward, the entire congregation was so warm and welcoming to them. Fr. John and his family were very welcoming and made them feel at home. All in all, I think a good start. At least no negative reactions.
