My best friend is a member of the LDS church (Mormon) and has been talking to me a lot about her faith. I read part of the Book of Mormon as well as a few references about the history of the church. I've come to the conclusion that there's no way the guy just made the whole thing up, but am still a little iffy on some of the beliefs. She talked me into going to church with her last Sunday and I really liked the people, service etc. But then they informed me that my baptism - done when I was around 9 years old in a Baptist church was no good. Basically, according to them, a 16 year old member of the LDS church is more qualified to baptise a person then the minister who had several years of theological education backing him up who baptised me.

I always thought that baptism is a physical act showing that you have chosen to follow Christ by obeying and following in his footsteps. How does it make any difference what the name on the outside of the church happened to be? As long as your heart is in the right place and it's a concious decision that YOU are making I think it's legit.

I've never understood all the religions making you get rebaptised in order to join thieir churches - just makes me not want to join.

What do others think about this?

Well what do you think? Does that sound right to you?

You are playing with fire, and I am disturbed that you seem to believe your friend.

I do not mean to come across the wrong way, but if your friend is a Mormon she has been decieved. Mormonism is a far cry from Christianity, and while it may look good on the surface it will not lead you to the God who is.

I know of a book you need to read - its called Mormonism Unmasked: Confronting Contradictions Between Mormon Beliefs and True Christianity. I highly recommend you do a little more research - don't just take your friend's word for anything regarding this.

Weigh the evidence!

Here's a link to info on the book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0805416528/102-9510962-4804952?v=glance&n=283155

You can buy it either online or at your local Christian bookstore.

Hope this helps ... I pray you look into this more.

May I suggest getting the book Joseph Smith and the Origins of the Book of Mormon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/078640826X/ref=cm_bg_d_5/104-6907177-7494341?v=glance&n=283155) by David Persuitte. He sets up a pretty good case for the real origins of the Book of Mormon.

If you aren't interested in spending money on a book or reading it at a library, I would direct you to the carm (http://www.carm.org/mormon.htm) site, they have good explanations concerning the Mormons.

I am also a bit surprised that you would seem fairly positive towards a cult that believes Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. That Jesus was not always God but became God. That you or I can actually become Gods.

I mean that's just a start, while Mormons claim to be Christians they deny basic foundational truths of Christianity. They can and often are very friendly nice people, but they are far removed from the Bible in teachings and beliefs.

Your view of Baptism is CORRECT. Don't ever let anyone or any denomination tell you otherwise.:) I'm surprised you came from a Baptist Church though... They're usually the ones who force people to get rebaptized.

Hey, please becareful of the Mormons.

Stay far away from Mormon beliefs! It is not christian, it is a whole other gospel.

2 Corinthians 11:3-5
3But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

People can recieve visions or revelations from satan, who appears as an angel of light. You should read your scripture and pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that you will not be easily decieve, and you could also lead this friend of yours to the true Gospel.

No. you have it backwards. The Mormon baptism is no good. To say that a baptism is good is to give water magical qualities.
