As soon as I can get my foot out of my mouth, I'll be eating crow :D
Seriously, though. My neighbor invited Anonykat and I over for pork chops. It's a fasting day, but hey, it's better to accept the invite and eat pork chops than to decline the invite, damage neighborly relations, and fast for the benefit of men. (I love that loophole ;))

Well, we had a bit of an oops today. Kevin's been working 4 days a week but I just never get used to it so when he is off on Friday I think it's Saturday. So happily we went out today to try out a new restaurant (DonVA, Gordon Biersch at Town Center was really gooood). And of all people, Kevin goes... isn't it Friday today? Just when I have my teeth in a tasty turkey sandwich. :sorry:
Oh well, it's soon Wednesday and we can start over... AGAIN.

I eat dairy, so I had Pasta-roni. :yum: I'm a bit hungry so I might make a cheddar-spinach quesadilla before bedtime.

I have been invited to both a lunch and dinner there and still haven't made it! A couple of my co-workers were able to get away, and said the same thing as you. I love the restaurants over there. Have you been to Bravo yet?

I am still so confused over the fast thing. I see the calendar and I know what it says, but my mindset has not migrated. Please help an inquirer here.....how did you convert folks develop an EO mindset when it comes to the fast?

We went to a Greek/Mediteranean restaurant for dinner tonight.
Falafel please ...
sorry, we're out ...
Ok, some Baba Ganoush ...
we're out of that too ...
:sigh:
Had salad and dolmathes, I didn't dare press my luck and ask for it without feta :D
And besides, feta is not real cheese is it
Oh, I'm munching on leftover fries from Anna's grilled cheese plate.
Anna did get to try her hand at belly dancing ^_^
It's off to the monastery for that one ;)

Fall down, get up again, fall down, get up again...
:)
I think for a lot of people it helps to get in the habit of saying morning prayers. Also, every day is a feast day--events and saints--so it helps to be mindful of those. It helps you start off each day in a Godly way, and it helps a scatter-brained moron like me remember to be mindful of what day of the week it is. :)

Shrimp is fair game ;)
Also the veggie section of the Chinese take out menu... not to mention a large Chinese market, about 15 minutes away
A "good" chocolate soymilk will pass for Yoohoo
And when in the store, looking at soymilk... when they tell you that many people buy that brand.. ask... "Anybody buy it more than once?" ^_^

The Holy Reverend Fr. Michael used to tell me the exact same thing in dealing with my Roman Catholic parents and them making meat dishes on fasting days.

Oh you need to go! If you like garlic, you should try the garlic fries. YUM! Although not recommended before that important meeting... :yum:
Haven't been to Bravo yet (Kevin has), but I've been to Keagan's (not super impressed and it was really smokey when we went) and Ruth's Chris (we're just big RC fans overall LOL, we had our wedding reception at a RC in Baltimore... and before someone gasps, it was cheaper than having it catered in the Baltimore/Annapolis area). But I just pointed out Bravo today so I think we'll go there at some point here.
Normally it's Freemason Abbey down toward Ghent/Downtown Norfolk or our local joint, Granby North. :)
Right now it's a lot of grilling at home as Kevin loves to grill (and does it well) and there's generally always some single guy from his squadron over mooching for dinner. :D My dad gave us a nice grill for our wedding and our deck is FINALLY done so we can enjoy it. Now we just have to wait until it cools down a bit so we can restart our semi-destroyed lawn.

There's a town about a half hour from me that make & smoke the stuff right there....you stand out, not knowing how to order the stuff in Polish!... also the home of a HUGE ROC-MP church (google 3saints)
(Edited to say the church is in the next town over... 'bout 10 minutes from some of the stores)

Did she have fun?
Before I had kids, I used to play in a band (doumbek and djembe) that accompanied belly dancers. I've taken belly dancing lessons for 10 years. It's great fun and the best workout!

Hmm, I started my catechumenate at Lent, so I kinda went through fasting bootcamp. The key is to look ahead and be prepared for it. It helps me to plan my meals for those days at the begining of the week and remember that I will be making something other than what the rest of the family will be eating. I still do forget alot, but I think it takes time for it to become ingrained.

Last night I had Japanese hibachi. Scallops and vegetables with steamed rice. I actually felt kinda badly afterwards that it might actually count as cheating because it quite good.

There's a place up here in Pittsburgh called Fosters. The best Kielbasa you can find. Met THEODOSIUS asks our parish treasurer to take him there every year to stock up for Pascha. If it's good enough for the ex-head of an autochepalous Church, then it's good enough for me. :)

He loves it when it's his night to cook. I'm afraid his fish sticks are going to be finished way before the mac and cheese (the sticks are in the oven, but the water hasn't boiled yet), but sometimes you have to let them just "do" so they'll learn, right?

A funny story...
When my daughters were younger (they are now 17 and 14) they decided to get up before Mom and Dad and cook us breakfast on our anniversary. The intention was to make "cinnamon toast." They could not find the cinnamon, and in their infinite wisdom, prepared "ginger toast." They had remembered that gingerbread cookies were sweet and good, but failed to realize that ginger spice sprinkled in toast might not work. It didn't!!! However, being little girls at the time, we ate what we could stomach and pretended to eat the rest.
Yes, they need to learn! :)

Last night, we took the boys to a Thai place, their first time. The older one has developed mad chop sticks skills at home, so we wanted to let him try them out in public. Not bad for 7yrs old. I had the same thing I always have, honey duck with black bean watercress sauce. Husband had pad thai, kids had chicken satay. YUM! Just got back from grandma's, where we had grilled steaks and corn from the farmers' market.

I just re-tried brussel sprouts. I tried them once maybe 8-10 years ago, when I was much younger (voluntarily!) and HATED them, but since I tend to be a fan of dark green things, I thought I've give 'em another go.
So, I cheesed out and bought the boxed kind with a butter sauce on them, instead of real fresh ones, but I liked them alright! I didnt think they were delish, but I could definitely eat them.
What an exciting life I lead.

I liked them so much when I tried them as an adult that I had to call my mother to ask her why she never served them! (Turns out, she was never a fan...)

That sounds good! I'm gonna have to have your kid to teach me how to develop mad chop stick skills. Latley i've been going to Chinese resturants and still asking for a fork. When i do get my fork, i end up ditching it anyway and end up using my hands, Arab style.. lols.
