greetings Comrades in Christ!

I am asking for some advice and or help with prayers too.
I know that the Lord has called me to (professionaly) serve Him. I am happy to serve Him now where I am pushing papers. While I am here pushing papers I witness to people, proclaim the Gospel of Christ, I try to be a good Ambassador for the Lord. But there is a restlessness deep within my gut (no it is not gas) that covicts me so. I have a desire, something fierce, to study the Word of the Lord, the theology of Lutheranism has wrapped its big warm arms around me. I nee help, prayer, and advice. My work is suffering because I don't want to push papers, i want to be on the streets, proclaiming the Cross of Christ. :sigh: :sigh: :sigh: :help:

Charles,

I am happy that you are feeling this desire to proclaim his word. I hope that desire is still there in about 2 or 3 years. One of the pre-requisites to attending a seminary in the Missouri Synod is to be a member in good standing with a church for at least 2 years. They do make some exceptions, but it is rare. I am not sure what the requirement is for the ELCA or other more conservative synods.

I have lived most of my life in the LC-MS. I spent about 15 years in the American Evangelical movement and then returned to Lutheranism via the ELCA and then back to the LCMS, primarily because I didn't agree with allowing women to be pastors which the ELCA does. They are also in pulpit and fellowship worship with churches to which I could not in good conscience commune with because they don't hold to the same belief on the Lord's Supper. While you may not understand these issues in this way right now, I think that the more you study what Lutheranism is via the Confessions (Unaltered) speak of and how they help us to understand what scripture says.

I especially urge you not to buy into the neo-orthodoxy of Karl Barth. It is truly bunko. Liberalism masked as orthodoxy.

Get involved with the church first and serve there. Go to the adult inquiry classes, become a member and ask plenty of questions. Keep studying and in time look into seminaries if that is the way you should go.

By not doing your job well, you are cheating your boss and the other workers. That's not good. Try to stay focused on your job for now when you are at work. It is God-pleasing to do other vocations as well :)

You might want to look at it this way.

When your work is suffering because you are looking to preach the word or your mind is elsewhere in the context of Christianity, this is not good.

Work, like you work for Christ, since you work for Christ "pushing papers".

He knows your desires and hopes.
He was the one who gave them to you. :)
He'll handle the rest.

But meanwhile. there is nothing worse in a context of a testimony for Christ when a believer in Christ is doing poor work at the job.

"Push papers" like it is Christ sitting in that office asking you to do this. :)
And if you witness instead of finishing your projects - do not witness. It is a poor testimony.
It is like an alchoholic that preaches not to drink. :)

You are saying that you want to study the word.

How well would you say you know the Bible?
And how do you study meanwhile?

Thanks, :)
Ed

I am glad that you wanted to serve the Lord.
First be associate with one church and have good experience.
Where there is vision, there is mission.
No Vision, No Mission.

I Remember this verse, while I post

I Pet 2:10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

There was a time 20+ years ago that my husband was feeling a calling to be a lcms minister. He took his feelings to our pastor, and he was encouraging, but also suggested he pray about it, and listen to what other christians were saying to him, and of course, look to God's Word.

Turns out it was not his calling, but he's been used of God many times at church, and in witnessing to others.

I'm not saying this is how it will turn out for you, but just know that no matter how God chooses to use you (be it at work, or elsewhere) it is an important task.

I agree with what others have said here. Join a lutheran church, serve the Lord there, and take every opportunity to study His Word, such as in bible studies, adult type confirmation classes etc...

Please do talk with the pastor there also. He will be a great guide for you.

It's good to see people like you that are so excited about your faith, and the Great God that we have!
