The Book of Revelation contains many mysterious things. In Chapter 17 and 18 we are introduced to a "Harlot" who is sitting on a scarlet colored beast.

Who or what do you think the Harlot represents? And who or what do you think the beast she is riding represents?

No no. The beast is President Bush, and the harlot is John Kerry. As it says,As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning. (Revelation 18:7)

The luxury of the harlot is the vast wealth of Teresa Heinz, and the torment and mourning are the loss of his run for the presidency, and subsequent disappointment. Then of course there's this...The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. (Revelation 17:8).

Though Bush won, there's still that two-term limit. The bottomless pit is Bush taking Clinton's place as the butt end of Jay Leno's jokes.

(There, a political joke that anyone can laugh at.)

I believe this beast to be the same one mentioned in Rev. 13. The ten crowns on the horns seem to represent governments or some sort of union of nations. I think you see where I'm going with this. Rather it's the EU or the UN or both, I'm not sure, but they will attempt war on Israel. The woman is the symbol of some great power controlling the horns. That's as much as I believe I can say here.

We, as blood bought, forgiven children of God, need to know these verses so we know where in God's timeline we are in light of Bible prophesy. It doesn't matter, so much WHO the whore is, but what God has revealed to us through His Holy Word.

Rev 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Rev 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

But their mindset

Rev 17:17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

God has put on their hearts to agree with this whore. They feel in their hearts that they are doing what is true and right. We have no control over this. All we can do is pray and give them the Gospel from Scripture. Which is what we are commanded to do in the first place.

(disclaimer before the report buttons go flying: OH! for Pete's Sake! How do you know I'm not talking about Muslims?)

No believe but I find this plausible.

The woman is the Roman Empire which persecuted the early Christians ("drunk with the blood of the saints"). The 7 heads are the 7 hills of Rome ("The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits.").

"18The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth."

What else could that be in the first or second century BC?

The horns heads are various emperors who persecuted the church and destroyed Jerusalem.

Well it seems as though those
Ten crowns have to represent the
Government of some kind if you
Ask me!

Why the assumption it deals with modern times?

Revelation was written in the 1st or early 2nd century A.D. for people who lived at that time. This is what it would mean to them.

I don't know 'bout the Harlot, but my mother-in-law is a close candidate for the beast....;)

Well all three of the Dixie Chicks could represent the Unholy Trinity. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they were revealed as the beast, the antichrist and the false prophet.:P
