My Sunday Evening Dinner:

In my lastest attempt at cooking I am going to make a sauce with medium/hot Golden Curry, stir-fried beef and veggies (onions & bell peppers mostly) and I'm going to put it over rice. In theory it sounds mighty tastey but I am a pretty bad chef. :yum::|

Well, it's not like culinary skills are your specialty. I thought that's why there was such a large frozen selection at the store;)

My father is a chef, and never really learned much from him. I did marry a culinary specialist so that sorta took care of that. In my bachelor days I ate lots of beans & rice ('specially black-eyed peas).

I normally eat a lot fo tuna, some kinda noodles, bologna sandwhiches, weird combinations usually involving hot sauce and peanut butter. But to be honest, Im quite tired of all that and desire normal homecooked type dishes.

I got tired once, tried to fry some chicken. I didn't cook it long enough. Ate it anyway.

I tried cooking some pork chops once. I didn't cook 'em long enough. Ate it anyway.

God grace alone that I'm even alive today and not dead from self inflicted food poisoning.

You must have missed it when I said I was a bad cook and that I have a tendancy to not cook my chicken and beef all the way through and you expect me to mix my own curry, are you mad? :P :P :D

That sounds good too!

I think I am going to cook this again. But I want to find red curry this time that is very spicy as I like it better than the gold. I would also like to figure out how to cook it with squid. I imagine its the same way as the beef, just stir-fry it, you think?

Let me do some checking for you - curries are easy to make yourself to your taste preferences. The combinations of herbs & spices depends on what you're cooking it with - prepared curry powder as found here is only 1 option.

As far as squid is concerned - biggest problem with squid is that it gets very tough very easily. Nothing quite like eating a meal of rubber bands:sick::(

SQUID?

OK so I've never tasted it. Let me guess, just like chicken, right?

Seriously - it's like eating rubber bands (very, very chewy - the taste comes from the seasoning). I like most everything - but can hardly handle calamari (squid).

Not exactly chicken and not exactly fish, but man is it tastey. I wouldnt necessarily call it rubber bands but it is slightly chewy. I promised myself that I would try anything once except liver and insects. The first time I tried sushi I almost threw up because the texture was odd but I came to readily enjoy it. Wen I tried squid I was queezy because, well, its a hideous looking beast from the ocean but it's really good. I encourage you to man up, Mr. ex-Marine, and try at it your earliest convienance.

Sounds like your curry turned out well

Have you tried butter chicken? It is EASY!

My last adventure with calamari was when someone told me that eating calamari would bring on labor. Had a big calamari lunch on my due date. 14 hours later--BABY! :D

No kiddin'?? That's kinda cool.

Shoot me the recipie for butter chicken, I'm always open to good meals. Would you believe that last year, it was 8 months before I had a normal home cooked meal? Hook me up. :D

You know, they do have those box mix thingies that taste pretty good (as long as you haven't had the original recently!)--like the Hamburger Helper (includes tuna, etc) and the Banquet box meals--you just cook up the meat and add the stuff. Doesn't sound too tough and might be good once in a while.

I love calamari, but HATE liver. I had to each a chicken pate sandwich at Christmas and almost lost everything and was queasy all night. . .never again will I do such a thing, I will withstand all pressure.

Try this butter chicken recipe. It is similar to mine but I don't measure anything.

If you don't have a blender you could probably whisk it.

I told ya, I vowed I would try anything once except for liver and insects. I would eat a dog, though, I would probably feel tremendous guilt and I want to eat a rat which I hear is quite tastey.

When I was in college the second time, I lived on hamburger soup--

Brown a little hamburger in a dry frying pan with a little chopped onion, pour off any grease.

Add one carrot chopped in medium pieces, one handful of frozen peas, 1/4 cup canned diced tomatoes and 1/4 uncooked rice. Add one boullion cube dissolved in 1 cup water. Simmer until rice is cooked. Serve with buttered bread if you can afford it.

I ate this pretty much every day during my junior and senior years. It was the best meal I could afford. :D

I know - when you pull them out of the ground, why their screams are ear shattering. That's why I don't grow carrots anymore - it was just too traumatic for me.

I agree-and no matter what anyone says it sounds worse than pulling ears of corn. They just sorta whine about it. And don't even get me started about the green beans and that non-stop weeping until they get cooked. I can even hear it through the fridge door-drives me crazy.
