Shalom Word of G-d!
There are seven feasts of the L-RD, meaning they are His creation, and for a specific purpose. The purpose is in follow up to the promise made in the garden, that of the crushing of the serpents head, in bringing forth His Salvation.
Salvation in Hebrew is Yeshua, thus these seven feasts of the L-RD are all about Him. :)
The first on the Biblical calendar and in order are:
Pasach - Passover
This is followed closely ( under 24 hours) by
Feast of unleavened bread
then within the same week
Feast of First Fruits
These three are known as the Spring Feasts
Yeshua has completely fulfilled each of these in His atonement sacrifice, his burial and his resurection and ascention to the Father. Praise you L-RD!
Then after seven weeks we celebrate Shavuot - or The Feast of Weeks
This is also known as a harvest feast, the second harvest, the summer harvest, wereas the Feast of firstfruits was the spring harvest.
This was fulfilled by the Ruach HaKodesh as fortold by Yeshua before he ascented to heaven.
It is known in the Christian world as Pentacost meaning 50, but it is actually seven weeks, 7X7 = 49 and on the 50 day is the feast.
This is usually in May- June depending on when Passover falls (which every other feasts is determined by).
Then there is a lull, a time period before the Fall feasts. That is the time we are in now. It is not a good time, many things happened to Israel during this time, and there are fasts and certain days that are observed but not of the seven ( see below).
The next one happens on the first of the Seventh Month. Seven feasts, and the conclusion of G-ds eternal plan of salvation is completed at this time.
This first one is called
Rosh Hashanah ( modern name meaning head of the year)
But the L-rD calls this :
Yom Teruah - Which means Day of Blowing, and means the Day of blowing the shofar, or Trumpet. Understanding this day can give much understanding to prophetic verses in the bible surrounding the sounding of the trumpet and the last trumpet and much of what happens in Revelation ( seven Trumpets)
The next moedim ( this means appointed time and that is what all seven of these are called) is:
Yom Kippur - This is THE Day of Atonement- it is the most solumn day on the calendar.
The Last Feast and most looked forward to is:
Sukkot - This is aka Feast of Booths, or Feast of Tabernacles. It brings us back to the first feast which was only done once in Egypt, the Passover ( all others are memorials to this event, and now those who believe in Yeshua Ha Moschiah, we know that this was showing us what was to come in HIM). The beginning of the salvation of our G-d from Egypt, ( sin) to dwelling in the wilderness, away from the world, under His chuppah, His covering, in dwellings that were not permenant, but under His protection.
This is a festive time, we make a structure and live in it for seven days, celebrating and rejoicing in the L-RD each day, with fronds of Palms and willows and myrtle and the fragrant fruit. To Messianics this is a anticipatory rehearsal feast for that final Sukkot when the L-RD dwells amoung us, and we are with him at the wedding feast. This is the Sabbath rest he spoke of.
That is the Seven in a nutshell.
Others not found in Exodus and Leviticus are:
Purim - ( Meaning 'Lots' as the lives of the date of the Jews annihilation was determined by casting lots) ) Right before Passover ( Feb- Mar) - a celebration of how the L-rD saved the Jewish people from annihilation and also preserved them to bring forth Messiah.
Also around this time ( Jan-Feb)we celebrate Tu- B'Shevat which is in translation - 'the 15th day of Sh'evat', the celebration is called the New year of the trees. It is marked because in the land of Israel that is the beginning of Spring there.
During the period of omer ( the seven weeks ) there are a few other days on the calendar.
Yom Hashoah - Which is relativly new and is a rememberance day of those six milion Jews who died in the Holocaust.
Yom Ha'atzmaut - is the next day celebrated as it is Israel's Independance Day. May 14th 1948, but is not celebrated on May 14th, it is celebrated according to the Hebrew calendar so changes each year.
Third during this time is
Lag B'Omer - It is day 33 in counting of the Omer. It is a joyous day celebrated throughout the land with bonfires and much meriment. It is said that the Romans forbade the study of Torah on this Date but the Jews were not obedient and continued to study G-ds Holy Word.
Then after a few months there is
Tishah B'Av =The Ninth of the month AV
This is a solemn Day in Israels history, many horrendous things happened, such as:
First Temple ( King Solomons't) was destroyed by the Assyrians
Second Temple ( King Herods) was destroyed by the Romans
1492- Spanish Inquisition - all Jews driven from Spain ( Christopher Colombus also left the next morning) This day is observed with fasting and mourning. Other things are said to have taken place on this very same day.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything, but there is one more, and it is the First of our Holy convocations, and it is not celebrated yearly, but weekly, and that is the Shabbat, the Sabath. This is in recognition of our creator G-d, who created the heavens and the earth and ceased from His creation on the seventh day. We are called to remember this and to cease from our works on that day as well.
