There is an extremely confusing pair of passages in New Testament Scripture, and I was wondering if anyone might put forth a possible explanation. In Matthew 2:1-2, we find,
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."
Now, here is my question. These three came from the EAST. And, they state that they have seen his star in the east. But, if they had seen His star in the east, then they would have traveled from the WEST in order to follow it.

So, how could they travel west to follow a star that was in the east?

I read it as "we in the east have seen His star" but there's probably a better explanation...

That's how I read it too.

Phrase it this way and it will make perfect sense:

"We, in the east, have seen his star."

They saw his star while they were in the east, and then set out on their journey.
